Hi all,

Hope you don't mind a British guy invading your forum, but I would really appreciate peoples thoughts on the Scorcher distributor and coil set up.

Its not something that anyone in the UK uses, I have tried to collect reviews on Facebook etc and all seem great, read through posts here and seems all good so im really hoping this is the solution, you get what you pay for kind of thing as its by far the most expensive.

As we are all aware the options are limited,

280zx dizzys are getting rarer and tired now, the e1280 modules aren't available anymore meaning you could easily be left stranded by one failing.

Pertronix is attractive but expensive for just a module, leaving you with the old distributor, again i have heard reports of these just dying.

Finally, 123, heard 50/50 with these, for something that's new, they shouldn't fail like they do, i did approached the company about these issues, they replied and said "we do not have quality issues" then stopped replying.

So I'm really hoping there are no horror stories about scorcher, spoken with Andrew and they seem great. Just want to confirm as it seems like there are problems with every Z car ignition solution.

I've seen your posts all over FB asking this with everyone telling you they are a good product.
I'm positive the guys at Performance Ignition will bend over backwards to help with any freak issues you may encounter with the dizzy.
Circa £500 is not a lot of money for a brand new distributor, or are you just a tightarse Pom?

I have one of these units and cannot give them any higher praise. I spoke to these guys and advised all engine mods and cannot believe the boost I got. I was running the FAST electronic conversion but the Scorcher is just another level. Money well spent.

I had a few issues with the Tacho but have resolved them. Was mainly due to a faulty resistor at the coil. Disconnected the resistor and problem solved.  Also had my Tacho upgraded to modern times by Lionel Otto Instruments here in Brisbane.

Great to hear, im a little worried about the tacho not working, especially on a freshly rebuilt engine. Was it the ballast resistor that got removed?

It was a faulty noise resistor they fit so ignition noise doesn't go through your radio, I think the ballast is still used. will check tomorrow. The instrument Doc put a new heart in the tacho to bring it up to modern standards and is triggered by the - terminal on the coil. The other old tacho now works also after deleting the faulty noise resistor. Dont listen to the radio anyway. LOL.

Ballast is not used anymore.

Pic is the faulty bit plugged into neg side of coil that was causing the tacho to fault.IMG_7054.thumb.JPG.f74bf9ce2c5e4eade23967e9a9c4dec2.JPG
