Hi. My name's Josef, and, uh, I love zed cars?

Currently searching the market for a 260z 2+2 (heh, that's my price range). I'm after something that is a little neglected and needs a bit of work. I'd like to pick up a zed for cheap and fix it up.

I hope I get to know all you guys better when I finally find my dream car. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry for the late reply, have been very busy.

So I found a 260  ;D. My first plan went bust as we needed a registered/road worthy vehicle. But still keen on picking up a wreck.

It's a 1976 2+2, brown/maroon in colour with bubbly/peeling paint (one of the previous owners did a dodgy respray), no rust, fairly clean interior, everything original, 5sp manual, and almost a years rego. I am very happy with it. Needs a few minor interior repairs, but all the trim, seat and doors are perfect. Gearbox is a bit too rusty for my liking, will be looking for a new one.

I will post some pictures up as soon as I can find my camera.

P.s friggin' heavy steering.

that was quick congratulations on the buy.

as for steering  ;D hmmmm power steering does wonders.  8)

Power Steering will definetly make your missus happy, but I have found that you do get used to the heaving steering. I only notice it in carparks when there isnt room to move when I turn the wheel  :P

I was tempted to go the power steering route but figured it wasn't worth paying someone to do it, and knowing my DIY skills aren't up to the task

I'm slowly getting used to it. When I first drove it and started hooking into corners it felt so weird. Ahhh, the carparks! Zed turning cirlce = fail.

no power steering is great for sports purposes but when it comes to parking it can be abit of a task.

I preffer no power steering on my cars, i like to feel everything and be in full control.

Erm had a chat with one of my mates thats building a 260z 2+2 last nite . looks like he be parting with it soon. and has lot of goodies.his power steering setup could be for sale individualy if he cant get the money for the complete shell with power steering and big brakes.

so keep an eye out on the classifieds.

Not necessary unless you have massively wide tyres & lots of castor...

Sorry, but IMHO, if you want power steering, might as well go buy a white Toyota Corolla, and move into the nearest retirement village... A real sports car has no luxuries....just noise and performance!

It's not so bad now that I'm getting used to it. I wasn't seriously thinking of getting power steering, was just something I was playing with in the back of my head. But you guys are right, it does have a nice feel now.

First one the list; gearbox. Got someone offering me a ca18det 5spd for $200. Should I take it?

Remember Jospef its your car. Everyone has their own opinions but that's why everyone has their own cars. If it makes you happy do it!  ;D

Can't help with the gearbox price

CA18 box is the same as the S13/R31 unit - it's called a '71C'.

It's a good price too - just check the condition.

I should probably ad the CA box to the list...

Heh, I'm not crumbling to the preassure! Just being realistic. Not really worth the cash and work. When I first drove it out of town it felt so loose on the road. I thought she was going to slide around almost every corner. But now that I'm used to it, it feels much better. I've driven non-power steering cars before, but this one is in a totally different league.

I'm not too sure about the $200 box. The person bought it off a guy who was doing a conversion that failed. She doesn't know how many K's are on the box and has never seen it in action. Might just spend the extra $100 and go with the guy who had it in his own car, and knows it has 120k's on it. They're pretty easy to find, found several sellers in the first day.

There she is :). Bit of rain on her, not much light, and the photos were taken with my dodgey phone camera. But it came up alright. Will take some better shots with a proper digital cam when I get it working.

Just a question regarding using the R31 box in a S30, would this place the gearstick too far forward and hitting the standard console?

hahahahahhaha white toyota corrola

erm currently 225 16" tyres at the front and fittting 235 17" soon and a daily commuter i wouldn't have it without PS. also has performance and makes a lot of noise (prob too much for a road car)  ;D plus my miss can drive it too.  :P got to keep the boss happy. LOL

but on the 240z i will not go for power steer. ie simplicity and only a summer car so no need.

Joseph nice car. as Stevo said your car do as you please. dont worry what we ranting on here.  8)
