Hi There,

 

I'm wondering if you guys can help me identify what this gearbox is, I'm converting my 260z 2+2 from an auto to a manual and im wanting to use this.

No Idea what these numbers mean, mine has # 2_10_15

Casting no.s on outside won't help. These cars have had so many changes over the years you can't rely on that.

Best to turn input shaft and see what output shaft turns to get idea of ratios.

This isn't correct for Australian cars. I think the close ratio box he speaks of is a later 280zx turbo usa gearbox or something  like that and the ratios aren't as close as an Australian 240z (late) / 260Z close ratio box with the 2.9 first gear. 

The CR 240z /260z box has the dust shield to my knowledge in Australia. 

The gearbox in the first picture also has 3 switches in it's right side housing so pretty sure she isn't a 240z /260z box but will work as a conversion gearbox no problems.

Casting numbers mean nothing when identifying 71b gearboxes. I wish people would stop referring to them... 

The only way to quickly check is to put it in 1st gear, and count the output rotations - 3.3 rotations means it's a crappy wide-ratio box. 2.9 is close-ratio.

The box the OP posted could be anything, however it will work for it's intended purpose.
