road rider
On Gumtree for $29,000 Needs a lot of work 1971 Datsun 5 speed 240Z number HS30 00257 Fairly solid project car | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Whitehorse Area - Burwood | 1297746622 Oliphips
Balinski
$35k 1971 Datsun 240z HS30-00793 This early model 240z was a project purchased from WA approx 6 years ago and has been dry stored ever since. With its previous WA owner it was a similar story and was laid up for many years before being sold. History before that is unknown and previous WA registration documents will be included with the sale. The car has never been registered in SA. The car appears to be very original and accident free with very straight radiator support panel and no evidence of accident damage anywhere around the car. Some rust spots either exist or have been repaired badly in the past - see photos - notably the doglegs showing poor quality repairs and the rear of both chassis rails are rusty and in need of repair. Other typical trouble spots appear to be in good repair but having owned these cars previously there are likely hidden spots that present themselves upon tear down. This 240z was originally 903 Blue and still runs an L24 with twin carbs (not the matching engine) and a 5 speed manual gearbox. The diff is believed to have been upgraded from an r180 to an r200. The car starts and idles but not very well, and is missing its muffler. The car is mostly complete with original parts (seats, steering wheel, centre console, complete interior etc that are all often swapped out over the years) and would make an excellent project - unfortunately other cars have taken priority and the sale will fund progress on those projects. Any inspection welcomed and recommended - based in the inner west of Adelaide. Interstate buyers welcome and happy to assist with transport arrangements etc Located in South Australia. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mile-end/cars-vans-utes/1971-datsun-240z-manual/1299149089?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=ios_VIP&utm_medium=social&utm_source=com.apple.uikit.activity.copytopasteboard gilltech, gav240z and OdinZ

240ZBUILTBYME
ive noticed a trend of 260z's asking prices being on parity or higher than 240z's, what do you thinks driving this? people feeling the age old price difference between 240z's and 260z's is unjustified? When I bought my 240Z years ago and joined a car club, a few of the older guys had 2-door 260Z cars that I had not known even existed in Australia. I started looking to find they were $5-10K cheaper. After speaking to them and finding out more about the history, I kept remembering one thing. They all said that they should be MORE expensive than the majority of 240Z (series 2 & 3) because they were much rarer and a better car to drive. So I bought a solid, one owner 74 260Z 2-seater (proper carbs, pre-anti pollution and 1 of 400 odd) and have enjoyed watching it rise in value almost as much as driving it. A much better car than my 73 240Z. Chassis is almost identical but feels a little stiffer and the running gear is much nicer. I guess the old blokes were right. gav240z and gilltech 1

I was naïve and insistent when i bought my car that it had to be a 240z because that was the original, to me a 260z was lesser for not being the original. I'm somewhat wiser now and see the value of a 2 seater 260z. again saying the 260z is "better" really depends on personal preference. Not a debate I'm willing to start. lol I would like to know if capping and extending the 240z chassis rails brings the chassis stiffness more in line with the 260z. What's worse is when it's in your car, you can look at it, touch it, turn the knobs but it hasn't worked in over 20 years. I guess a Vintage Air unit will go in one day; might even rip out the heater core and seal the air vent whilst I'm at it. Lucky the Z's have the two air ducts that don't trap rubbish (in the cowl), rust out the top of the firewall, drip into your cabin and rust out the floor, make you swear whilst lying upside down ... gav240z

Well there are changes in 260z over the years. Including beefier rad support area and rear strut towers are taller. Which all are factors in its rigidity. gilltech
