But happy to be corrected. Talking only of Works 240Z rally cars here, but most of the 'early' cars were equipped with independently-driven pairs of Tripmasters. Usually one off each front wheel. Later (1972/3) cars often had Twinmasters. If a crew had enough time with a car before an event and/or had used it previously, they might sometimes 'personalise' it a little more to the navigator's preference. That might even include changing type and position of navigator's gear. It all adds up to make such details a bit of a moving target, so best to view cars on a case-by-case basis and a bit of a moveable feast... gav240z 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

dat2kman Posted November 1, 2015 Share Posted November 1, 2015 I have a couple of original TripMasters if anyone is interested in that "rally" look, We called them Map lights, and ften strung a bit f black cloth to stop driver being distracted by glare f light while navigator does his thing. I believe that this type is also deeper than the 240Z/260Z type to accommodate the larger 280Z radiator. I did a Google search and it seems that 280ZX splash pans are/were very different again. Thanks, I neither love this appendage or loathe it, I'm somewhat in the middle. I think it would be more at home on an S30z with flares and that "fat" look. Than on a standard body S30z. I do like the idea, but think in execution it's a bit sloppy. Too big a lump. A more subtle hood modification to improve cooling would be better. I guess Nissan eventually put the vents in the hood in later S30z's to achieve the same thing, but I don't like the look of the "260z" style vents. I've always felt they look cheap. But much too modern for my tastes. I like something a bit more historic looking. Here is a Ferrari 250 GTO bonnet with leather straps and perspex cover over a vent.
