Administrators gav240z Posted December 1, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted December 1, 2015 Update: HS30 00288 - photos added. Yay thanks to Jeff43 for those. @Ian - I'll update those cars soon. @24Dat - I just checked and it's the most popular individual thread since August 3rd when I first put it up. So yes, it's very popular. Interestingly enough month on month 1 of the most popular pages I track is the buyers guide! http://datsun-240z-blog.viczcar.com/nissan-datsun-s30-buyers-guide.html and I never actually finished it (started in 2009), I really have to break it down and write it again. However it just goes to show there is thirst for information on these cars. I will have to migrate it to the new software and improve it. Administrators gav240z Posted December 4, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted December 4, 2015 308 now Resides in The showroom at Bridgewater Nissan, Bog stock on hubcaps, Mint condition If you ever get a chance to take photos of it please share! That would have been a quick restoration turn around on it, if it really is mint! Interesting that 308, 310 and 319 are all 907 Green. That seems to be the longest paint run in the same colour I can see so far with the data we've collected.

EJ101
Back in the early 90's a bloke who I met at TAFE was a mad Datto fan. He had a 1600 but was hell bent on a 240Z and always went on about them. I didn't know much about them nor thought much of them. I had a Bluebird wagon and a LJ GTR!!. Finally he got one. It was red, the darker red 905 I think? It had triple webers on the L24. He put 15x8 Neals wheels on it which I said looked crap. Anyway, I was hooked. The sound, the look, the interior, the performance and handling. Loved it. Made me realise what a piece of crap the LJ was. That influence led me to buying a '79 280ZX 2 seater in 1995. He always went on about the 240 being an early one, being a '69. I didn't understand the significance. After getting married it had to go and he sold it to his brother in law who I believe did an engine conversion, Toyota twin cam turbo 6 if I recall.......memory is fading. Brother in law liked doing burnouts, one to many times and the car was confiscated by the cops when those new laws were introduced (anti-hoon laws) and was impounded at the Wetherill Park police station. I saw it one day when I was out for a stroll in the impound yard. Looked like it had been there a while. Windows were open. I went to the front desk and asked about it and the cop tried to make out that I was doing something wrong. I explained I saw it from the outside of the yard through the chain wire fence, I wasn't in the yard. He had no time or interest in helping so I left. That was at least 15 years ago or more and the last time I ever saw it. Subsequently they put up a colorbond fence! I haven't been in touch with my mate in years, but I'll endeavour to do so and if I can, I'll get some info and pics. The car may well have already been listed in this excellent thread. Looks like he was based in my area of Sydney too! I can't recall if I mentioned it earlier but Jack's car here: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&title=Yella-Delight&A=108383 Is in the 4XX range I think, have to chase him up about that. Car hasn't been getting much use lately since Jack became a father. 24 Dat
EJ101
that is it ORGAZM. I forgot about the numberplates. My mate din't put those on the car! Mate you should change your username to Z Detective. it prompted me to get in touch with my mate. It was a 1970 HS3000171 he said it was the display car at the 1970 Melbourne Car show but could never verify it

I think Ian (GongZ) would be a close contender for the Z detective title also . The story you told me though got me thinking about the feature car and article. I thought it might have been Ben Ellis' 240z that had a 1JZ conversion, that car went to the UK a few years back, but I think it was a 71 240z. But my memory did recall any early 240z getting a Toyota engine swap, bit a shame the old L24 with webers was probably discarded. I do wonder what the cars fate was after the impound though! In terms of being a display car at the Melbourne car show, I think that's perhaps HS30 00063 ? http://collections.museumvictoria.com.au/items/800697 Although this description says 1971 and not 1970. #63 used to be Frank Guilfoyle's car. He ran DatZed in the 80s. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12106-love-this-photo/?p=144116
Administrators gav240z Posted December 5, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted December 5, 2015 Ok boys and girls, riddle me this. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12106-love-this-photo/?p=144115 This silver early 240z (901) has engine number. L24 013045 My Safari Gold Car (HS30 00150) has: L24 015253 HS30 00060 has: L24 011646 So that car must be between #60 and #150, the question is what number was it? EJ101
looks like another one for the first page Hey EJ101 do you have any photos of your 280ZX 2 seater? ok had a lengthy chat with my mate and his car was 177 not 171 as he'd stated earlier He said it was written off in an accident. Whether it was scrapped or purchased as a wreck by someone is unknown. pics of the 280ZX 2 seater I owned are in http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14120-280zx-2-seater-when-i-owned-it/ Edited December 5, 2015 by EJ101 gav240z

Thanks to Carl Beck's page. http://www.zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/classicHS.htm This car is likely to have a chassis number between: HS30 00063 (L24 011644) and HS30 00086 (L24 013104) *Edit and looking at WA Z Car register... http://www.wazregister.com/index.php?title=View_ANZIS30_Register HS30 00068 = L24 011483 HS30 00084 = L24 013021 HS30 0008X = L24 013045 HS30 00086 = L24 013104 So although motors can be fitted out of sequence there is a good chance it's between #84 and #86... This is why getting this info into a database will be so incredibly helpful....

Administrators gav240z Posted December 6, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted December 6, 2015 With regard to the mystery car HS30 0008X = L24 013045 Zshop told me this: The Motor Registration Branch MRB never recorded chassis numbers, just engine numbers until the late 80's when they became VicroadsThe last time that car was seen was at DatZed - 715 Dandenong Road Cnr of Raleigh St. Malvern in 1983.It was traded in for a new 260Z 2+2 in 1977 that I was told was a disastrous lemon.Just like any 10yo car today 240Z's were old hat by then. (not cool for the 70's jet set to be seen in) People often changed the tail lights, added side repeaters & turned them into 260's to be cool. We changed a lot back. They had been rally cars & rich boy's toys who couldn't afford an exotic European car, had the heart flogged out of them with very little maintenance & the body's were shabby. The best you got for a trade in was $1,000 - $1,500. Like HO Falcons, many were smashed & junked.
GongZ
HS30-00605, original engine number L24-027547 = James Flett's car (does anyone know if it has a new owner?) http://allclassiccars.com.au/datsun-240z/ http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/3725-jims-71z/ Edited December 7, 2015 by GongZ

EJ101
I remember when It came up for sale and saw $62k was the asking price. I thought it would be for sale for ages. It didn't last a week. My boss is a car nut and is sick of me whining about not being able to find a Zed,so when this came up I asked him if he could lend me $61500 to which he'd reply "F##k off". I even promised to pay him back! (I can joke around with him in this way......which is good)
TobyMyers
A while ago a bloke posted about the 'ORGAZM' Zed on the Downunder datsuns Facebook page, if i remember correctly he said it ended up getting crushed after getting caught hooning one to many times
