Hi folks,

Excuse me if this has been mentioned before, but is this a genuine ad??

http://www.autotrader.com.au/cars-for-sale/view-photos/ATW3563537?photonumber=

I note that the pics seem to be from Australia.... but the car seems to be LHD. I have been in touch with the seller and they seem a little hesitant to provide details - and have assured me the car is RHD.

Seller is Ross from Ferntree Gully, Melbourne (not me! although I am Ross and used to live in Ferntree Gully).

I am still hunting the perfect GTO replica ....

Ross, as I've mentioned to you before there is no such thing as a perfect GTO replica. They are never finished nor perfect, they are a process.

You need to look out for rust under the fibreglass. All can be repaired of course but it's harder going (more expensive) if you have to cut away the fibreglass to repair the unibody and then replace the fibreglass.

Good luck, your patience will be rewarded and this one looks like something worth further assessment.

Different cars, the original link has a 260z style dashboard. The 1 you posted from Shannon's is definitely a 240z dash.

Different motors also, I doubt they are the same car, although not impossible.

I am still hunting the perfect GTO replica ....

Ross got an email today.

Hi Gavin, and thanks for your answer.    Yes, I am

wanting to sell the car, & have had a few bites, but

nothing really definite as yet.  The people who are

interested are all interstate, and no one has actually

looked at it as yet, so I thought I would try the local

car clubs. It is running, and drives very well, but

needs rear wheel bearings,  a complete going over,

a tune up,  and is not registered.  If you can help, I

will be very grateful.    It can be looked at anytime,

with 1 days notice.  My name is Ross Pearson, &

I am in Ferntree Gully, Vic.  0419.877.101.

Thanking you in anticipation.  Cheers.  Ross.

Nice, can't see the images you attached Gavin, did the owner confirm is a RHD?

Yeah sorry I didn't notice because I was signed into my GoogleDrive when I shared them so it looked like it was working. I'll re-post again. He told me that the reason there was 2 that looked the same is that a factory in Ringwood was producing them at 1 point and they built a couple that looked exactly the same.

engine bay photos would suggest that is RHD.

Not having a good run of this....Sigh must make this photo attaching nonsense easier.

even thought that is not a 240, but that looks nice! im interested!! You said that it is not registered, how does it work if i want to get the car over into nsw?  does it mean i need to go through checks and register the car in vic, and than drive back to nsw and transfer state?

You should be able to register the car in NSW without having to go through any hassle first in Victoria, provided you can prove ownership and transfer the car into your name. Just get a receipt from the owner to say you've paid for the car etc.. as a backup. Having the previous registration details for the car is helpful. (Looks like RGH 442).

Having said that call the RTA or Vicroads and ask them though, always better than asking someone who hasn't done it before.  :P

Another thing the owner told me is this, because I enquired about the headlight covers. In the photos it looks like they have chrome trims around them and I was wondering who makes them because maybe we could get them to produce some for the S30z.

Hi Gavin.  It must be an optical illusion, but the

headlight covers on my car, which are different

shape to Z ones, do not have any chrome trims.

There is an identical car which sold at Shannons

with a Toyota 4L V8, that was built by the same

guy who built mine, and it has chrome rings.  I

never met him, and bought mine 12 years ago

from The Healy Factory in Ringwood.  The two

cars have identical paint, wheels, and interior

trim.  It was spooky when I first saw the other

one.      My plastic covers came from Vancraft

Plastics, 25 Cheltenham Rd, Dandenong.  I also

have the plastic bonnet scoops, which were never

fitted, as the holes in the bonnet were filled in

when it was built.

Here is a photo of the Shannon's GTO replica (based on a 240z) the car above is a 260z based replica.
