Im pretty sure this is the same 260z for sale a few weeks ago asking $45k ono. Now its a 1/3 more expensive!!! Nice mark up indeed.................

Classic Edward Lees, he has purchased the car again. He is scum! But is doing good things for zed resale values in australia.

I would pay to see him get punched in the nose, better still, i would love to see him to get shut down and never allowed to open another business again.

On a lighter note:

71 240z no 596  $26 000

Embodiment of the stereotypical used car salesman I guess.

The cars sold at his yard seem to get a bad wrap on the Japanese odometer check page and various forums for being wound back. But unfortunately I think that is the norm and not the exception with these importers =( I think he is just an easy target due to the high presence on youtube and what not.

Ok now that makes sense, the seller of that 260z (Alex) said the new owner wanted him to remove the price from the ad. I thought ok fair enough we can do that, but now that I know it's Edward F^^&&S&S Lee's I want everyone to know he paid $45k or less for it.

He doesn't post here anymore because several people are onto his dodgy tactics. He's been found guilty of odometer tampering on multiple occasions. The RX7 community are well aware of his antics, along with many shonky dealers on Parramatta Road. NONE ARE TO BE TRUSTED.

Great service guys!! Was going to purchase an El Grand from Edward Lees Japanese Auto Centre, Parramatta Road - thanks to you guys I have found that the ODO HAD BEEN WOUND BACK FROM 190,000+ to 78,000km's

Got my deposit back, back to the drawing board

(Here is the link to the listing:

Sadly this isn't the first, nor the last time Edward Lees has done this and likely will continue to do it. Oh look a 180sx video was taken down? How convenient Phil?

All you have to do is scroll through the JOC facebook page and find several references to Edward F^^^&S& Lees and his shonky business. I've bit my tongue for so long because I didn't have any solid evidence, but it's slowly stacking up against him. So don't buy his "260z" or Fairlady Z in Silver,  Don't buy his Bluebird Coupe and don't buy this Fairlady Z with stroker motor or the RX-3 Savanna he has advertised for $70k.

Edward lee's is loved here:

Here is a great example of the shoddy Edward Lee's Tricks.

(20,000 km's only) Sure.....

It's not hard to find a 20,000 km RX-7 when you wind the clock back eh?

There is basically nothing good that can be said about him... I suspect several people in Japan know his game also. For an entertaining read see this thread.

(HS30-H) had his number pretty quickly.....

A personal note to Phil, please sue me for defamation mate, I'd love the Barbra Streisand effect to take place.

So was the old man!

He's no doubt heard of a couple of recent sales of very very nicely presented Z's that have sold for over the $k mark, but these were almost perfect, and with backing evidence to show it.

Any so called "rebuilt hogh HP engine" etc from there would need to be verified, and that could get pricey to do so, and if found out to be bullsh1t after you bought it???

Well, any Usedie ( short for Used Car Dealer) will plead ignoramce etc etc, and leave you sucking the saveloy.

Meeeeeeeeeoww!! You go girl!!!  :P

sounds like he deserves his bad wrap.

Yeah but it's not just him on Parramatta road it's all of them!

All Imports Australia -> Sports Auto Group -> DBN Holdings -> and it goes on... Once 1 company goes under a new 1 pops up, same people behind them different name. It's cat and mouse with the authorities but it's obviously too profitable to stop doing it.

Edward Lee's keeps the same name, so at least we know who the dodgy bloke is and there is less smoke and mirrors. Not to mention the obvious tax dodging going on at Edward Lee's with the orange 240z that's been for sale forever. As a tax payer (and a high paying 1 at that) it pisses me off no end that people like them can cheat the system.

I hate A Current Affair, but at least it highlighted the shonky dealings of these guys. If you're going to buy a Japanese Import or any import get it odometer checked and if you're buying a vintage classic Japanese car make sure you check it over very closely as we know how they rust and who knows what kind of repair work has been done on Edward Lee's inventory.

They've had a nice looking track prepared (in Japan) 911SC RS replica for like 5 years too (well its still on gumtree at least). Doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

Rev you and I are on the same page mate. No dreaming... It is possible.

Indeed...its a matter of getting people to to understand in the "world of quality restoration" (with photo history) you do get what you pay for! ;)

I am truly impressed with Ledge & if more were like him cars would not need to be restored several times! :)

Bring on the resto shops with the same credibility ;D

if I could get the right tradesman I'd begin a full resto shop for Jap imports where everything has a pictorial inventory and the customer is part of the build process from start to finish - guess I'm pipe dreaming!

Not wishing to sprinkle unicorn weewee as rain, on this parade,

But how many owners of a car, or buyers, are there out there,

That are prepared to stump up the $50,000-$60,000, maybe even more that it will cost for this service?

Recently two cars have sold at around $50k, their owners have mostly carefully added up their build bills, and were in the $70-90,000 area.

We flinch at 432Z pricing, or KPCG10 pricing, but there are, just a few, that will pay for these cars, done properly.

A fully setup proper decent resto shop,,, how many cars per month does it need to turnover in order to sustain its business mdel? Wages, verheads, cost f goods, government red te.

Why arent people flcking to the doors of Les Collins, or Stew Wilkins? Money, or the short arm, deep picket syndrome.

A Sydney workshop has to fork out $60,000 in advance to get 10 close ratio dogbox internals made, at a time, minimum order. 9 get sold o/seas, one got so

D here, in four years, but that $60k cost f goods had to come from somewhere, and money costs money!

I often read about people having classic cars up for sale to avoid tax. Can anybody explain to me how that works? The only thing I can think of its Capital Gains Tax.

There is no capital gains tax on Classic Cars, as far as I'm aware and from reading this page.

http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm?docid=TXD/TD200035/NAT/ATO/00001

What we suspect Mr Lee's is doing is putting his own personal toys down as Business assets or stock and writing off the loss of these unsold units come tax time. Thus reducing his tax obligation, when he has no intention of selling particular vehicles.

Let me know how you go guys. Sounds great.

Let me finish at least 1 restoration project and see how I feel after that! :).

For more Edward Lee Dodgy-ness. Before going back on topic.

I have mentioned this before - educated guess - I would say this is a "tax dodge".

I reckon the two Zeds he continues to advertise "for sale" are his personal cars.

If he advertises them and "never" sells them - he can claim the stock as a loss on his business books.  That's why when people ask if it is for sale - his staff say "kind of" - 'cause they do not know if the question is coming from an undercover tax inspector OR a genuine enquiry.  Essentially he gets to own the cars while his business slowly pays for them via the loss adjustment.  Cars will eventually pay for themselves and will be written off as "unsellable stock".

Not a very honest way to be going about things.  Possibly a reflection how he manages the rest of his business?  Dunno. While I can't blame a guy for wanting to get back at the taxman - doing it this way would be confusing a lot of potential Z car owners - which ain't so cool.

Would laugh if someone comes up with cash and goes the "buy it now" option on ebay.  He will be legally obligated to sell!

Just guessing mind you.....  ;)

Bloody dodgy car dealers  - they are all scumbags and arseholes... !

Well said Phil..

Or just do a search on Google.

https://www.google.com.au/webhp?q=edward%20lees#q=edward+lees

Not much nice to be said about him...

When I think of Phil, I think of Gordon Farkas from The Big Steal... "Geoff Mullens the boss, but I'm better lookin', that's why my pictures up there."

Shame about the quality of those clips, but it's a great movie.

Gav240Z - your a jealous wanker...

Thanks for the vindication mate, I think you meant "you're a jealous wanker".... since we've reverted to name calling, what kind of charlatan* tries to rip off a family with a disabled child?

From JOC Facebook page.

UNSCRUPULOUS DEALER of the month!

A family with a disabled son was looking for a van converted for a wheelchair.

They paid the dealer $1000 to source a Nissan Elgrand in Japan. The dealer not only happily takes the 1k 'sourcing fee', but he later presents them with a vehicle that was already landed/in stock ...with wound back kms!

Luckily the family did contact us and ordered a JOC check. The car was advertised with 38'127kms on the odometer, but the registration documents provided by us proved that it had already done over 120'000kms last year before it was exported. (see pics)

This is what the family wrote to us:

'Dear JOC

We checked the odometer reading you sent against the advertised odometer. XXXX says the odometer reading is 38,000 – whereas the results you sent us say 121,200 (about 3 x more than what they told us). We approached the dealer (XXXXX) and were told that ‘it’s those people in Japan who are winding back the clocks’. We had paid $1,000 for this company to find us a wheel chair converted vehicle in Japan so we can transport our young son with cerebral palsy. The only thing they did was to try to sell us this vehicle they already in Sydney.

Families like us struggle to find vehicles and are at risk of exploitation. We’re glad we did our research and found you but some other desperate family will get caught. Meanwhile – XXXXX promised we would get our $1,000 back but this has not happened.

Hope you can do something proactive to ensure this vehicle is advertised at its correct odometer (not only is this fraud – but people may have a false sense of security about the safety and reliability of their vehicle.

Regards

X'

JOC can't name and shame the dealer for legal reasons, but surely somebody will find the ad (it's still up...)

SHARE IF YOU CARE

Thanks,

JOC

All your special cars return 404 pages mate?

But don't worry I saved the ad for you.

*To save you the effort.

The charlatan is usually a salesperson. He does not try to create a personal relationship with his marks, or set up an elaborate hoax using roleplaying. Rather, the person called a charlatan is being accused of resorting to quackery, pseudoscience, or some knowingly employed bogus means of impressing people in order to swindle his victims by selling them worthless nostrums and similar goods or services that will not deliver on the promises made for them.

I won't be advising anyone deal with you, even if your S30z's are legitimately good cars I'd advise people to avoid your shonky business. What I think really scares you is the lack of 'wood ducks' walking into your business, even with all those balloons, sale and low mileage stickers, people are able to look past it and see you for what you really are.

But don't worry I'm sure you've got a career in hairdressing ahead of you, after all you're good at haircuts aren't you?
