NEW OEM H4 headlights

A forum service announcement from myself...

These are BRAND NEW, OEM style 'Koito' Brand, H4 headlights.

So now you can still have the factory OEM looking lens, but with the added performance of H4 Halogen (Phillips brand!) globes.

These are a direct bolt in for your 240, 260 & (I think) 280ZX.

A contact of mine informed me that these are available from Toyota dealers (of all places!) for around $100/pair till the end of June (RRP is normally over $250).

So if you want a pair, all you have to do is walk into any Toyota dealer around Australia, and quote the part number: 90981-01H22 Sealed Beam Unit.

If the Toyota spare parts person can't find them on the system, tell them to look harder - they are there! There are over 500 pairs in stock so they wont run out quickly.

(To the blokes who came to the last workshop day, please refrain from disclosing further details of how I found out about these)

So do you need a relay for these? I have one in the Zed at the moment.

Also I have 130watt globes that are like 10-15 years old. Pardon my ignorance but are we saying these will be brighter than what I already have? I was going to put in some new lights to replace the older style? Oh electrical work is not my speciality.  :-\

There is 2 lamps in a box, so that would be counted as an assembly.

In which case $110 is about right.

These inserts for sale take any H4 globe but don't come with any globes in the box. These are for people with zeds that have original sealed beams that want to upgrade to H4 halogen headlights but with the correct or close to it pattern on the lens that you can't get with the Hella or any other brand H4 insert. Crap loads better than the "Autopal" or Taiwanese or Chinese inserts. These are made in Japan and are of a very high quality. Price probably is $100+GST which makes it $110. These shuold fit in a 280ZX as all 7" round headlight equipped cars mount the same except for late model Ford AU XR series and BMW. Try and not go nuts with higher wattage globes unless you have fitted a relay to the wiring. Even going to a 60/55 in my 240 the switch has melted!

While you're at it give serious consideration to adding a relay and tossing in a set 55/100 or 90/130 bulbs.

The relay and brighter bulbs will make the improvement even greater, well worth the extra little bit of effort.

Cheers

I went down to my local dealership today and they gentlemen mentioned that they had some of these in stock. He couldn't disclose if they were semi sealed beams or sealed beams and mentioned that they are flat with no pattern not curved?

He said they had to order them in, and I would have to pay upfront ($121 each, he was adamant it was on in a box) , and if they were the incorrect lamps I'd be stuck as I couldn't return them (as they are electrical). So I decided not to do go ahead today as the guy didn't really have the answers I wanted.

I bought the cheapo "autopal" ones the other day and I do not like the look of them currently, so need to change.

Essentially if I go down, pay the cash and get that exact part number and name "90981-01H22 Sealed Beam Unit" X 1. I SHOULD be in the clear?

Its a costly risk.

Thanks!

Hi mate

Trust me - That part number is a box that contains TWO lamps with 55/60W bulbs.

They are a genuine approved Toyota product and of very high quality.

They are halogen, made of glass, flat fronted and look like the image below when installed.

i rang the Toyota dealership in Wollongong yesterday. They did not have these in stock, but ordered them and had them ready for me today.

The price was $119 and, as stated by PB260Z, included 2 Koito semi-sealed beam headlamp units complete with H4 60/55W bulbs.

The bulbs are Philips H4 12342 12V 60/55W - made in Germany.

Lurch is my hero.

Toshiba and Stanley headlights were also fitted in the USA not sure if fitted to Australian cars

Pity the Koito lenses are flat so nothing like the originals only the name is the same.

So is it better to have convex lenses with halogen inserts that look original or flat Koito lenses ??
