there were 4 Phase 4 XA GTHO’s built by Ford’s skunk works, they were known as the Lot 6 cars.

It seems one that was written off had its Phase 4 351’s dropped into a “Datsun”

Could it have been a most likely candidate into a Z registration number IPQ-686 with a vague reference to

P 137308

Any thoughts? If a Zed, it’s priceless if it still exists

My consumption is 1903 kWh (plus/minus) for Sept, Oct, Nov quarter. My statement says this is about normal consumption for a household with 4 occupants.

In big red font on the front page of my recent bill is printed..."Qld Competition Authority estimates the Federal carbon tax blah blah....add $259 a year to a typical 6.3MWh bill".

I guess they mean 6.3MWh per year. So my 1.903 x 4 = 7.612MWh which is apparently 21% higher than the average yearly bill.

Although I have an energy efficient house, I do not get mains supply water pressure. I receive water from the water authority and store it in tanks, plus harvest rain water. Every time I use water the booster pump delivers water from the storage tanks to the house. So my biggest electricity usage is pumping water. I also recycle all waste water with a grey water system. This also consumes electricity which most households would not.

I hear that Qld has one of the lowest costs per kWh in the country, and this is the argument used by those who want to increase the tariff, but my thinking is the other states are being ripped off more than Qld. We don't need to match them.

If we have so much coal, why do we pay so much for electricity?

When I was in China, I paid 150 Yuan per month for electricity, for a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 occupants. That's about $25/month. And that was during winter with -20 deg C during the night. From 6pm to 6am the reverse cycle heater stayed on all night. During the day the central heating (circulated heated water) was enough to stop the apartment freezing but at night we turned on the reverse cycle as well. Hot water and cooking was gas. Here in Qld I have Solarhart hot water and gas cooking and I do not need any central heating or reverse cycle heater. My electricity consumption in China was far more than here, but cost was about 6 cents per kWh. Why am I paying 26.73 cents here? No wonder it's cheaper to make a car, train, washing machine or what-ever in China. And China burns our coal, go figure !

It's not just the carbon tax, it's the darn ripoff price we pay that is killing off our manufacturing industries and hurting households.

So during my recent house hunt in Sydney I came across lots of place that had garages that were a bit too neat (clean walls and floors etc..), you could go so far as to say uninspiring...then we found this older house, which had this rough little workspace, just the kind of rough around the edges place I like. I can make a bit of a mess and not worry the landlord is gonna crack the sads and send me packing.

So enough talk and here are some photos of said working space.

There is quite a few shelves and cupboards left in there from previous tenants / owners.

So far the only thing I've got in there is a lawn mower and jerry can + 2 stroke oil. All my tools are still in transit on a boat and my car is going through compliance. The 240z is in Melbourne, but the garage (in Sydney) is almost big enough to fit 2 cars (I'm going to take measurements).

I recently saw this article on speedhunters and have to say I like the garage, the old model cars and the cupboard spaces / bench tops. It just looks like a creative space.

The more and more I get involved with my cars the more and more I want to do creative things, and I think a good workshop layout and space is the perfect way to give you inspiration. So the whole point of this thread is to see what you guys have done with your own workshop / spaces and share ideas.

I'm looking for ideas on the cheap, ways to recycle things and tips for finding cool things to put away in the garage like old petrol station signs or where to get old tools / machines on the cheap etc..

Given that PF is pretty hard core its surprising that their road cycling thread has by far the highest page count on their forum so I figure there must be others out there in the Z scene that are pedalfiles.

Post away gentlemen.....your highs and lows, rides and advice or questions but remember, if its not on Strava it didn't happen!

Whilst 8 years seems fast, I now realise that my dreams of retiring in 30 years and driving around in the Z may not be practical, unless the quality of electric conversion items improves a lot over what is currently available!  Even then the same report predicts that human controlled cars will eventually be banned as autonomous cars have already been proven to be better drivers than humans. Our zeds may become track only play things with modern hearts that remove part of why we love them in the first place....... Feeling very conflicted because I do believe the world should be moving away from fossil fuels but I still want to drive my zed with a petrol engine ha ha ha.

You only need to look at projects like the recent successful test flight of an electric flying car (though they call it a jet: https://lilium.com/)to see that these things are no longer pipe dreams and they are rapidly becoming a reality!  

 So I read this article that gav posted this morning. And it got me thinking about something I do regularly which is try to predict out of the box future classics that haven’t yet been “fully appreciated”

So as a bit of fun I pose to you the challenge of coming up with a future modern clasisic that is under loved, under appreciated, and undervalued.

here are a few loose rules: 

- cannot be a current modern classic (basically the list from the article plus the usual subjects people consider to be modern classics) 

-cannot be obvious or a super car. Think out of the box

- must be from between the years 2000-2020

And what should be included is:

-model & year

-rough current price range 

-pros and cons

- reason it will be a future modern classic

 FIVA Socio Economic Survey – Update

 
As of the 5^th October, FIVA has advised that they had received 1691 completed surveys from Australia. This is quite a good result and is statistically significant. However, I have asked the Peak Historic Vehicle Organisations to once again go out to the member clubs to ask that we try and get more completed surveys from those clubs/members, which have yet to participate.

The more surveys we have, the better will be the statistical analysis and the more credible will be the resulting information, when lobbying governments over issues which can be impactful to our use and interest in historic vehicles.

The survey is open until the end of October, so for those people who have not completed the on-line survey, please make time to respond to the survey, which only takes around ten minutes to complete.

The survey is accessed by logging onto fiva.org/en/fiva_survey and then clicking onto the Union Jack Flag for the English Survey. In a drop-down box the survey can be completed by the responder at their address in Australia, which then collects all the information specifically for Australia, prior to it being consolidated with the survey results from 70 other participating countries. The survey information specifically gathered in Australia will be made available to us in Australia, by FIVA. The survey is based on the 2019 calendar year and avoids the disruption of 2020 and Covid – 19.

As the title says i'm fitting an SR20DET to a 1980 Datsun 200B.

He's a 1976 Honda CT90 with a few mods. The previous owner styled him after a cafe racer so I guess that makes me a bit of a hipster now...?

It has just undergone a complete resto. Nothing was left untouched on this thing and it includes a newer fully reco'd CT110 engine and basically new everything and I mean everything. The ad read like the guy bought parts from a catalogue and put the bike together from scratch. All this and he rode it around the block once so it has 2km on the clock.

Despite all of the new items it is still a Postie so it's not the most safe and precisely tuned machine on the road. Posties max out at around 80kph so at least I can't get myself in to too much trouble. The idea is to just ride it to the train station and the odd squirt around the local suburbs. Certainly not one for the highways or twisties...

My brother has recently rebuild his 1600, All stock brakes. New JB1181 master, 3/4'' non boosted, residual pressure removed from front nearest to fire wall, front calipers fully rebuilt with all new parts, new rear wheel cylinders, new pads, shoes and hoses.

He still has issues with the front calipers holding pressure after repeat stops in short amount of time. Is there something we are missing?  

I have heard the 280zx turbo manifold bolts up with some modification,but they seem hard to come buy so does anyone make flanges to suit?

Anyone here a Stagea owner? Now or previously? I've been weighing up a Stagea as a daily driver for a few months now. Not sure how reliable they are as a daily car and running costs etc..?

I've be looking at a 260rs (preference) with the RB26 (GTR wagon basically) or a series 2 RB25 NEO (manual RS4S) I think.

The later ones probably represent good value, but I like inline 6's and RB's.

It would replace the Suzuki Jimny, which is good on fuel, but useless on freeway drives Sydney->Melbourne which I seem to have been doing a lot in the last few years.

I've wanted a Stagea since the early 2000s when I first saw them at a import dealer yard and then later spoke to the dealer when he saw my 240z at a Petrol station and then proceeded to show off and blow by me as I was leaving the station.

It stems from buying one as uni student because I couldn't afford a Z and thought the fastback Celia was not a bad substitute..... The little time I had it before rego ran out and I discovered the severe rust in it (I paid 400 for it!) I enjoyed driving it.

Thing is even when they have nice wheels on them and lowered etc I realise the Ra40 still looks awkward and ugly. But I still really love them despite knowing full well it looks like a hat full of a**holes.

Anyone else afflicted with ugly car love? I know there are some (cough) Volvo appreciators on the forum......
