Herbonius
That does indeed look awesome. I agree about losing the bumpers. The holes and indents in the body would add to the look too I think.
zzzzed
If you decide to loose the rear bumper. Ill have it.
Ledge
Hi, Yeah i may loose the bumpers later, don't want to push my luck to far with the local constabulary. OK its dropped and wheel aligned. Thanks to Thriller for working out a good arrangement for the flares . Put back in shed tomorrow for Matte Clear. Regards Paul
benny
im worried that the matte clear will spoil it... as it stands the patina will continue naturally. my 2c
Retro Z
Love it. Reminds me of an old ww2 fighter jet.
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 4, 2013 Moderators Share Posted January 4, 2013 im worried that the matte clear will spoil it... as it stands the patina will continue naturally. my 2c Im with Benny on that one; the clear might give it a too even look? Roberto
You've been working at a cracking pace, Paul. I really like it. Have you considered chrome bumpers? (with rust and dents of course)
Ledge
Hey lads I do agree with that as well but the basecoat is very venerable with nothing on top. I will only be putting a very light coat on just to help protect it. definitely not 3 heavy coats. Roberto ultimately i would have no bars as racecars dont have them but i said dont want to push my luck with cops and there yellow stickers Cheers
PZG302
That has come up a treat, looks brilliant. I would love to see the flat capper leather patch brigade tut tutting over it at scrutineering for a pukkah historic event. One of the better paint jobs I have seen for pice of old decrepid junk

reverendzed
Looks fantastic man, well done! how about a quick primer coat on the flares then a shot of black and a sand so that they 'blend' with the style? Rev.
zed74
Hi Paul, Well done! Must say I had my doubts on how this would turn out :-\ But think I would like to convert one of my race cars now! Cheers
zzzzed
a set of guard mirrors would set it off
Ledge
Yeah Rev i basically bloody tek screwed them on so i could go get a wheel alignment will be flicking on some wet on wet primer just before the clear. Thanks zed74, it does look better in the flesh, Ive had a couple of nay sayers look at it and have had to eat there words. Mick i would like to put some fender mirrors on it but that doesn't really fit the theme of old racecar i think. (plus there bloody expensive) Cheers Paul
Administrators gav240z Posted January 4, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 4, 2013 I'm not quite there with the old stripes down it. I reakon a black faded hood with sponsors on it. Also I would go for bullet mirrors .
Wayne G
looks great. making me rethink my plans for paint and panel
neRok
Yep, impressive effort. Rim colors look odd though, I reckon all silver.
acf321
yep bullet mirrors a must for this project. i'm no panel /paint guy but I would have thought a coat or two of clear and then a nice rub down with wet and dry used dry to leave that very matt / weathered look. I really like the way this car has come up, it looks excellent. Not sure if it has a chrome tip exhaust, but I think a rough looking mild steel pipe would finish the job nicely. Lastly, a plastic rear window with some of those aluminium braces running up it would make it look the real deal.
Ledge
Hi Lads Well the Matte clear is on and i do say a very impressive product. Have loosely put the car back together for these pics. The clear has made the colours a lot richer and defines the different tones from blocking the car back. I am extremely happy with how this looks. When you guys do yours feel free to put on the attachments that tickle your fancy like bullet mirrors , fender mirrors , same coloured rims etc etc. Problem when you just wet rub clear it is no longer as transparent so doesn't look very natural( my opinion) i had never used the matte clear so wanted to give it a crack. The exhaust on it is a 2' strangle pipe and will be changed shortly Cheers Paul
reverendzed
Love every bit of this project! Well done for having the balls to pull this one off! Job well done. Rev
Administrators gav240z Posted January 5, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 5, 2013 Yeah really cool. I only provide suggestions based on what I'd do but this is obviously your project. Bonnet pins roll cage and chrome trim headlight covers for me would set it off as an old race car. If I had Photoshop I would show you but don't have it right now. Riceburner
Noice, love how aged the numbers have come up! Was there a method to the madness and where you sanded back?
PZG302
Looks awesome. I agree with the bonnet pinsat the rear and i know you can get stick on bonnet pins so you don't have to drill the bonnet. I have some somewhere but would take weeks to find them. If you are keen I could probably get you some.
neRok
When you guys do yours feel free to put on the attachments that tickle your fancy, like bullet mirrors , fender mirrors , same coloured rims etc etcTouche What are you going to do with it now? Sell it, cruise it, daily drive?
Ledge
Hi nerok, Lol at your touche, Mate this will be my daily for a while. More than likely till I have finished my early resto. I'm one of those people that everything is for sale but the price goes higher the more that I still want to keep it. When I do decide to sell it auszcar is the first spot I will advaertise It, that being said I have been already asked by a member to sell. Visited a few people today and they all had to eat there words. Bloody doughters lol. Cheers Paul
