im making changes as i type, just need to make a variant to suit the 260z 2 seater, although i may need one to measure from as they have a series of humps on the floor i might need to check out....

Hi Nat I would love a full set of frame rails , I like the idea that they can fit over originals as if old one are still good as in my car then they add extra strength , you only need to drill a few small  holes in rails and pump fish oil into cavity to prevent rust either way if you make them to fit over existing then those who have to remove old due to rust will notice no difference , kind of covers all bases . either way if they fit nice I will get a pair from you . On a small note those doing the mod also need to  brace behind the seat mount frames and tie it into the sill  and the  new frame rails  to create a box section of chassis , that really helps control twisting of the sub floor .

engine bay rails cut,

bend fab and finish to follow over this next week or 2.

Rear floor connectors and floor rails full length hopefully complete by end of this week.

have a cool 7 min video of these engine bay rails being cut, although its 128mb:(

 

"Jock" when you refer to frame rails, are you referring to the floor supports?? i think Veloce above queried the slip over the top option,

look its up to you, ill make whatever you need/want, its just not my recommendation. You cant stop rust, only controll its spread/growth and caping does not aid this.

Mate I want a set of those extension rails and two floor rails (yeah changed my mind), and the other stuff we discussed the other day. . I need it pronto  well as soon as you can make it. Want to make my car stronger to handle rb26Dett.

 

Oh btw cheers for the tip on blasting garnet.Im all stocked up now. Coronas are on me. Just get to the workshop so I can pick up the other stuff we talked about. Crapy day today so cannot do any work so rather gasbag at your place looking at those rails let me know.

ok, an update for those interested.

Full length floor rails including rear connectors are NOW completely developed,

first pair came up great.

see pics below. but i will/ should probly start another new thread...

have plenty of pics on and off the car and mocked up on the bench with my Front engine bay rails.

for those that have asked about capping rails( although im not a supporter), these ones pictured are infact a slip over just so

I could get confirmation of the shapes, profiles and agles, actual one that will be available will not be.

Like Peter has said before the rear connector area is a pain to developan that it was, with the front of the floor rails coming in a close 2nd.

c'mon how factory do they actually look?

Please Note!!!! all factory tooling and jigging holes as seen on your stock mangled/rusty rails,

all come out in the exact spots / factory positions as original ones do.

these replacement rails can be installed by any competent general panel shops with car jigs and aligners etc. or make a pro-restorers job a bit easier and save some time.

 

No welding will be done on these obviously some-welding of the missing corner flanges, as the installer will need to hammer/clamp flat and close up gaps before welding,

to suit your floor and whatever shape you're car is in, as they have been beaten and battered of many years.

 

If you're changing or thinking about changing your floor pans, this is what you will also need,

want the full length and extra strength of the rear connectors, running big torque engines.

 

Now onto the lower radiator supports and then maybe long &/or short nose diff cradles to suit s30'Z

These are very good god my set now just to get my arse in gear to fit them.

 

Nathan my cousin saw them and asked to make some vl ones. Told him to sell the vl and buy a z and than he get these.

not bad yourself either, only just found your updates re: roor section and door corner.

 

Here is V1.0 of the rad supt, I missed a couple of holes ontop I forgot about,

but for the first one off the bat, i reckon you'd almost drill them in yourself........

 

The back section with the formed holes and also, (since popular demand and I think I may need to raplace one of my own....)

the whole panel with holes for very exclusive RB intercooler piping ;) yes thats my eye twitching......

ok all,

here we have some updates.

Floor rails batch #1, only able to yield 2.5 pairs per sheet, less than hoped for, was hoping for atlest 3 pairs, so ill get more HiTen sheet ordered in asap.

Both pairs are pretty much already sold, Thanks Katokid for your patience, first one on the bandwagon with funds which kept up my obligation to see them through.

Batch #2 on their way to sort out all the other enquiries made.

These things are all go, pleas pm or email per first posts.

then we will be on to the deeper 260z & 2+2 rails for those in the hunt still, (apologies on ignoring you guys and leaving you till last.)

 

See pics for the following you will see.

- 1 pair of Full length floor rails nestled inside 1 pair of engine bay rails, strapped together with cable ties, ready cardboard wrapping for postage interstate

- 1 pair of loose Full length floor rails, in all their glory, awaiting new body & floor to stengthen / revive.

- 1 pair of rear subframe to existing STD length floor rails.

 

Material used IS a Galvanised material, sand, blast or strip if you see fit, leave internal rails asis for long rust protection, but it IS a PITA to weld nicely, a little bit of spatter will be had.

Material is a Grade 450 (Min 450Mpa, actually specs out to near 520-580Mpa min Tensile Yield, with UTS upto around the 610 MPA),

which is about 1.5-2.5 times the strength of the off the shelf sheet steels, this stuff is used for guard rail uprights, Long span beams, and other med to high strength requirements.

 

Please be advised the floor rail are nearly completely UN-welded.

I only Tack in the corner rad's as can be seen in the pics, this is so they can be manipulated furing install.

Hi All,

 

I purchased a set of under floor rails from Nathan a few months ago, (extended length option), I have finally got them installed. The panel beater was very impressed with the quality and fit indeed. He specialises in restoration work, makes his own panels etc. My under floor section was quite bad, I think from improper hoist placement over the years, and the passenger side rail was very rusty. Luckily though the floors were virtually rust free. Any way a couple of before and after shots.

Lookin' good, i assume your panel beater plug welded from the inside of the car (drilled holes in the floor plan where the rails sit and filled with weld)?

 

I''m almost done my floors now so trying to decide if i should plug weld or stitch weld from the bottom... or both.... what's everyone else done?

Yes mine were plug welded along the length of the floors then plug and stitch welded at the front main chassis rail and the rear sub frame. The inside of the replacement rail and corresponding under floor section were painted with KBS. Apart from the obvious extra length of the floor chassis rails they look OEM.
