xyz coilovers

Recommended Posts

a quick look at the add indicates that they are a 'universal' style coil over, made from aluminium, requiring welding.

Your strut tubes are steel, welding them together would prove to be a massive headache.

You'll also find its basically a threaded sleeve, springs and some perches/hats that you need to modify.

This company regularly spam emails parts stores in Oz (and probably other countries) in order to make them a 'supplier' however they offer no purchase discount, limited sales support and most likely poor quality control.

Personally i wouldnt touch them with a 10ft pole.

If you are prepared to spend $1258 (price plus postage) on coil overs, i would suggest you contact Ben at Otomoto and see what he can do for you.

They have the HSD coil over sleeves and the ability to fit them as well, maybe even as exchange???

Either way, Ben is incredibly helpful with premium quality gear, he built several awesome S30's so experience is no problem.

If he cant do it, he'll know someone who can.

I got in contact with Ben regarding this about a month ago and although he sells the sleeves he told me he no longer does that kind of in house work anymore.

What Alan said ^, if I've learned anything about cars in the last 10 or so years. It's buy parts like this from a specialist supply store not some generic eBay supplier.

Otherwise you'll spend ages dicking about making something non-specific fit and it usually costs you the same if not more than actually buying the right part in the first place. So any money you think you'll save, never eventuates.

Having said that if someone local can supply similar quality product then explore that option.

I thaught it would be too good to be true. There is a suspension shop on the gold coast who claim to be aus distributor and can supply and fit for just under $2000 incljding wheel alignment. I am a bit cautious but will try to look into this more.

Cheers

And ask this suspension shop, how many Datsun 240/260Z's they have already done?

And have they done work for Jon Siddens, who is pretty well the Z guru on the Gold Coast.

And how many years have they done such work.

After all, you do want quality workmanship and product for your $2000

Me thinks they just do fooly sik hektic drift cars, and Mcpherson Strut/Chapman strut will cause confusion.

If you do go this way, ask them can you take pics and post threads on Australia's biggest Z car forum, with over 3000 members, so we can all see and hear your experience, besides it could be advertising for them, ask for discount!!

( not all advertising can be good advertising, if it doesnt pan out well! )

Thanks for the replies, I called Chris Jones who is the managing director of Performance Suspension at labrador and he said the s30 kit is relatively new however he has been selling xyz for 5 years and has been the aus distributor for 3yrs. His father has been Doing suspension since 1976 and they do all aspects of suspension. Chris mentioned he has a 240z coming in next week for the coilovers and will be emailing me photos and specific's on the job as they go on. If anyone on the forum is the owner of the 240z i would like to talk to you also.

He also went on to say he was thinking about some sort of sponsorship deal with Auszcar. I wasn't sure about any of that stuff so i sent him the site address and hopefully it comes to fruition...

Attached a Link Chris sent me of a breakdown of the kit... Not very helpfull without dimensions but better than nothing

cheers

David

I contacted chris jones again today to see how the 240z went. he told me the guy pushed it back a few more weeks and sent me some photos of the kit. Also he said the kit didn't come with any camber tops, which i think is abit poor considering the price tag and was one of the reasons i was leaning towards this kit.

I also spoke to ken graham at accurate suspension underwood, he told me i'd be looking at $1600 a pair for coilover sleeves fitted and these are pretty much the best thing for a Z. I didn't expect that price tag... but if you have a good reputation for being the go to guy for datsuns then you can justify the price.

In regards to camber adjustment as i am going to lower about 50-60mm would camber tops or adjustable control arms be the better option? or would i not need camber adjustment?

cheers

david
