Time to introduce my car and me

Hey Guys,

Thought it about time I introduced myself. Ive been lurking on here for a couple of years now, had my 240 zed for about eight.

Bought it when I was about 20 and in the exuberance of youth striped it bare and had it resprayed.

There it sat for eight years.

Other cars, bikes, women, work, always got in the way. But over the last couple of months Iv finally been doing a bit here and there.

New floor pans.

Rubber kit from Vintage rubber(F@#$ing expensive)

Carb kits from Z therapy.

and Tokico illumina strut/spring kit.

Energy suspension bush kit.

 

Got the Tokico kit from shox.com, when it arrived looked at the part numbers and its all for a 280z.

Not what I ordered!!!!

So sent them a pissed off email the kind were after you send it yo think I probably shouldn't have said that :-[

but this was the second time I had a problem dealing with them in as many days and about my 6th communication with them.

They say they have ordered the wright kit from tokico and will send it asap....so time will tell.

 

Looking at the quality of the struts I they are no Koni's

The adjuster on the strut top is plastic and feels very flimsy would like to have seen it made from steel.

But for the price I don't see anything else around. If you have the extra cash go Koni yellows.

It looks like you have put some serious work into her so far, it's looking good. Do you have a plan for your finish date?

I know the feeling of a long resto, I have an early Mini in the garage which is in the middle of a resto that has been going for about 13 years so far.

When I look at her I think, I'll have another go tomorrow but it seems that tomorrow never comes. Maybe tomorrow....

 

That issue with Shox.com is a pain in the rear end. How long has it been going on for? I have been dealing with them lately, trying to get just the Illuminas without the springs. They seem OK so far.

What motor do you plan on running?

Man I remember the day(s) of my shell looking just like that in the garage, nekkid.

 

Myself and a mate both went with the tokico shocks for the same reason (cash). My cars still on stands but his has gone around the track and did a decent run of about 500k's a few weeks back and hasn't had a problem.

 

It being a car for the road as well he went with the softest setting as he has 300lb springs as well so it was a bit unbearable on the road even on medium.

 

Good luck with the rest of the build, looking forward to see it come together!

OK Dale, how the heck can you tell that she's an early girl from those photos?  I'm not questioning your skills or knowledge, I just gots ta know how?

 

My ignorant eye says she's a '73 auto.

must agree with your comment that the tokicos are good value...hence why I chose the koni yellows  ;)

That must be the recipient for the auto's you picked up. Just curious what chassis number? Hope it all goes smoothly back together..

Hey Dimitri,yeah mate that's the one got the shift kit in and its ready to go....pitty the rest of the cars not :(

 

Can recommend Tim on this site for the shift kit was a pleasure to deal with.

 

So the car itself is a 1971 240z HS30-00353 auto...yeah that's wright auto power people.

I think shox.com is probably ok, a 280 kit instead of 240 is fairly easy mistake to make, but it took about a week to get it ordered, emails back and forth about my billing address being different to my shipping address blah blah blah. Didn't stop them from taking the money the day I ordered but.

So after all that when you get it and its not the kit you ordered...well I got a bit pissed off.

 

Anyhow as for the engine think i'll pop the L24 back in her with some new rings and bearing and down the track id like to put a quad cam V8 in.

Hi Custommade,  does your car have the vented rear hatch and the 240z badge on the rear pillar as per the attached photo? if so along with not having the bins behind the seats you defiantly have a 1970 early girl  8) with a number that high she would have had to be one of the last to come in ;) if not a very early 71
