dat2kman
On again, over 500 cars, two grids of Sports car (production) one grid os special sports, ( big bangers) plenty of touring cars etc, and for sure some Z's running in regularity, and some in the car parks as well! I'll be there in the mighty little Datsun Sports 2000, but this time, event organisers have bumped me up into the faster Group Sc prod sports, ( something about me winning all four races last year, ) with all the big DeTomaso's, porsche 911's. Alfa GTV's, and probably Pater Halls very quick Z from Adelaide. If you are in the pits, down on the grassy area, stop by and say Hi, i'm always good for a chat! Oh and if anyone needs something carted to and from Bris/Melb/Bris, happy to help if I can! Jason

bluerat
OK I'm keen, what's the go with ticket, buy them on the day or can you get them earlier? and is accomodation hard to find? My old mate Pirate Pete has entered his sportscar, the Turnham GM8 which is powered by a Holden 6 turbo and hopefully Peter Hall will be running, I saw him at Mallala a few years ago clean up in Sc by half a lap. Gotta love Rally Tas weekend, I went down to the mail box yesterday and Greg Carr's old works BDA Escort and a RS200 came burbling past. All that was missing was a FJ24 120Y...... Mind you RS200's are a bit commen, we had a different one to above run at our Highcleare hillclimb in December.

dat2kman
Hodgo, put the bite on your mate pete for a entry ticket, or you can buy them on the day, Pete will get four tickets. mine are all allocated, sorry. I'll have plenty of pics on the ipad of the 120Y for you to have multiples over! RS200 you saw could have been Rob Sherrards ( Ex Virgin beancounter and Aussie co-founder) it is a "media" car and was never used as a group B Rally car in the day, he is a resident of Tassie nowadays. the Esky bda ( was number plate IYK000? if so it was John Haddon, he is reluctant to bring it out and have a go, otherwise it could have been one of the many replica copycat cars that seem to be popping up, just like GTHO Phase 3 Falcoons! Eniways catch up with me at PI, just look for a real old Datsun, red in colour, that dont got no roof down on the grassy bit, over pedestrian bridge then turn right and stroll. dat2kman
Are there any prizes? Have you won any moneys in the past 4 races you have won bro? If so, what range are the figures at? i don't want to ask exact as that would be rude Prizes? Money? no way, in good old days of rallying ( 1980 to 1988) we used to win stuff and $$$, quite often, but in historic motorsport, it is considerd vulgar. We just do it for the sheer love and joy of driving our very very old cars as fast as we wish to, as often as we can, in as many places as we can do it, before we die. We are all a long time dead. To do PI from Qld, getting there, entry, accom, fuel, transport, maintenance on car, tyres etc I dont budget or make allowance, but I reckon I will drop around $2 to 3 k. I am being asked by the organisers to bring the George Fury 120Y rally car to the 2011 Alpine rally in Nov 2011, they have made an attractive offer to get me there, but it will still cost in excess of $3k, just to drive around the forests, make a lot of noise, talk to a lot of old people about famous old cars and famous drivers, get media coverage, do interviews, and show off an old car restored to its original as rallied spec in the early 1980's. I gotta sell a lot of black stuff to do all this, hey Lurch! If I didnt do this, I would probably be sailing big mofo boats up and down the coast, or flying a plane or a helicopter, or something, all costs bucks, and I'm just spending my kids inheritance before they get it! I have cupboards and shelves full of trophies of tin, plastic, wood and metal, but the mostest favourite and memorable, was the one we got for coming first "Novice Grade Four Rally cCew at the 1982 Ford Four Car Clubs Spring 200 Rally, in the Narbethong area in Vic, just past Healesville, that, and the trophy ( 2 foot tall) for winning the NSW State Rally Championship in 1988
bluerat
Yes Mr Dazda a RS200 not 2000, sorry Jason it wasn't Sherards it was a new one from south Oz (He also has a very quick Perana...). There are two in Tassie the other one is a well know Bus driver from Ulverstone, which is an ex-Tarmac spec car imported from a collector in NZ last year, he ran it at one bar boost and got 3rd at the hillclimb behind an open wheeler and Jamie Vandenburg in his Evo9, he also has the ex Seton/Fury Sierra in the collection. Sherard let Wayne Park drive his in Rally Tas a few years ago and he cut a track...till it broke. The RS1800 was John Haddens IYK000 and Stu Reid was running his trick new RS1800 as well, but after the weekend just gone you would sell them all and buy a HQ Monaro! I've just checked the date and it clashes with the first round of the Tas Rally Series and I told a mate i would Nav in his Commodore...bugger! You might reconise the shop in the background of the bottom photo if you went on the Tassie tour last year!
bluerat
Oh yeah Jason, I think I could raise some cash from the Tassie Fury Fan club if you needed it.....
dat2kman
Hodgo, dont need cash, but do need plenty of 205or 225 /65 x 14 rear tyres for the 7x14 rims, ( Dunny SP52's in soft compound YAY), I got 6 newish !!!Dunlop SP61's for the front, and , more important, and quite desperately, some unground FJ20 blank billet camshafts, or some proper 74 and 76 degree fj24 cams The ones in it ( installed by last owner here inQld) are crazy 80+ degree, 325 duration bloody great for 5000 to 9000 rpm no damn good for Alpine, I need it to pull clean from 2500 and good to 7500 It was not fun at Targa, and that was on smoother flowing bitumen, but the few tight hairpins had it struggling. Ask around tassie for me. Nismo/Nissan, Stew Wilkins and B Wilkinson have zip

RB30X
So how is it looking lads? Is Sunday still the go for most people. It's freezing for a northerner here at the moment, and apparently a bit of rain predicted for Sunday? For the locals, I'm staying in Bayswater north, would it be fair to say it would take about an hour and a half to get to Phillip island first thing Sunday morning. Cheers
620Z
I live not far from Bayswater North. It will take you 1.15 to 1.30Hr to get to the island. So your estimate is pretty good presuming traffic is OK.
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 17, 2011 Moderators Share Posted March 17, 2011 Reports say "Rain developing" which most of the time means rain later on in the day...I hope! Last time it rained there I got bogged in the carpark trying to get out! Worn semi slicks in mud don't work to well..
