Scando
For a while now I've been interested in doing some tarmac rallies but unfortunately my Z is way too far modified and the entry fees for most of them are too expensive for me. However this year they have launched a new rally called Targa Wrest Point which consists of a lot of the southern stages that are no longer included in Targa Tasmania. It will be run over two days and has a much more affordable entry fee. But unfortunately I still had the same problem, my car isn't elligible. Then last week I got a phone call that went something along the lines of: other person: "would you be interested in being the 999 sweep car for Targa Wrest Point in your Z?" me: "@*%# yes!" So now I get to go and do all the stages while they're still closed and open the old girl up. Will have to be a bit careful cause we are there to do a job and it'd be pretty embarassing to crash the course car but it should be heaps of fun. The other good news is that Bluerat (another member on this forum) has agreed to navigate for me. Also, a friend of mine is competing in the event in a n/a L28 powered 240Z. I can't wait! Hopefully I'll have an in car camera by then to get some footage to share with you all.

zedls1
Great work Scando, looking forward to in car footage. Chris, I watched the highlites of the Adelaide Classic, some great cars, especially the Z's. I cried when they showed in car footage on the 240Z that was in 3rd possition in classic class (Devenish - Carr)hit that tree, as great as a tarmac rally would be to do, hmmmmm. There were many others that did worse damage like rolling there car's. So there 4 240's in that class finishing 4th, 20th and 21st and the DNF in a field of 50 cars and many with some serious hp, just proves that you don't need massive hp to get great results as Scando has proven. HELLFIRE!
Congrats on the wins Scando! It just goes to show what Talent+Equipment can equal. The Z platform as a racing vehicle is phenomenal; weight distribution, drivetrain and suspension all coming together to whoop some arse! Got home just as it was finishing. as a tarmac rally would be to do, hmmmmm. Yeah, I think I'll be taking it pretty easy. Should be a good way to get used to doing rallies and having a navigator incase I ever get into that in the future.
NZeder
A bit late but congratulations on the series win So how is the new ECU install going or is this going to be done later?
Scando
A bit late but congratulations on the series win So how is the new ECU install going or is this going to be done later? Thanks, finances are looking a bit better for me at the moment so I've sold the 2nd hand Haltech and will be going for something new. The guy that tunes the car wants me to go for a Microtech but I'm leaning towards another Haltech. Not sure yet but I'll keep you posted. C.A.R.
MicroLeb work 'ok' on drag cars & Rotory's -hence why tuners love them because they are easy to set up. But for a Turbo circuit car, I personally don't believe they have enough adjustable parameters. BTW, Have you gotten a price on a MoTeC?
PZG302
Scando, The three ECU's I would personally be looking at to replace the F9 Haltech, would be: 1. Another Haltech, depending on finances, a fuel only or fuel spark. I find the F9 I have perfect for me as I use a 280 electronic dizzy for the spark and it was the only affordable computer available when the car was built, as it aint broke I won't be fixing it . I also have a couple of good tunes on disk and a old enough laptop to run it. 2. A motech, but can be pricey depending on what setup and what options. 3. Autronic, again very good nerd box but can be pricey. For your application, as Lurch said steer away from the Microtech as it doesn't have enough adjustments in the tune for you compared to the others, even the old F9 Haltech will give you more tunability, if that's a proper word
Scando
Thanks for the advice guys. I've pretty much made my mind up on a Haltech E6X. Should do everything I need at a reasonable price. PZG302, I have also been very happy with the F9 but I'm getting to the point now where I need something that controls ignition to take the next step. I haven't got a price on a Motec or Autronic but I've heared they're mega expensive? One of my mates just put an Adaptronic (one of the guys that used to make Autronic set up his own business) on his RB30ET and reckons it's transformed the car. Could be an option. In other news I have my KAAZ R200 LSD that I bought of Vindicare fitted and I'm looking forward to trying it
mossy
I've also heard very good things about the adaptronic, including the price
Glen
MicroLeb work 'ok' on drag cars & Rotory's -hence why tuners love them because they are easy to set up. But for a Turbo circuit car, I personally don't believe they have enough adjustable parameters. I never had any problems with microtech, infact i would say they are easily the best bang for buck. I built up a turboed MX5 and went with a LT8s. I was making good power from low boost 126rwkw from 5 pound. The guy that bought the car off me has since developed the car further but still staying with the microtech. He is now on 132rwkw @ 6.5 pound but once he gets the dump/exhaust sorted will see 150rwkw's. The LT series (8,10 and 12) can easily handle a turbo circuit car. IIRC a LT12s (6 cycl) sells for $1495 which is bloody good. If your clever you can buy the handcontroller for $200 and tune it your self. I know quite a few other cars running microtechs with impressive results and no problems with reliabilty either. I felt i should correct misleading information regarding microtech, im sure you know how that feels Lurch

sco_aus
Good stuff. Just a note that Autronics are half the price of Motecs for basically the same thing, but yeh still a lot more than the Microtechs, powerFCs etc
Scando
It looks like a proper race car now with two seats...... I dunno, I'm still tossing up the idea of taking the bluey wagon. It felt good on the recce runs
Scando
Good stuff. Just a note that Autronics are half the price of Motecs for basically the same thing, but yeh still a lot more than the Microtechs, powerFCs etc My dad's boss had an Autronic on his sports sedan but switched to Motec because the Autronic was difficult to tune. probably fine if you know an Autronic specialist to tune it. So you're happy with yours sco_aus?
sco_aus
Yeah definately. There about 5 Autronic tuners in Canberra and only 1 official Motec (Bates Automotive), so the tuning side of things is great. I am very happy and with most of the same options (like TC and Launch control etc) as the Motec for around half the price, you couldn't go wrong. It cost me around $5300 for the computer, re wire of the whole car, guage installation and a road tune (still gotta put it on the dyno for full tune) by Russell at Carco Exhaust centre in Belconnen. So I was very happy considering a Motec was $7k for the computer... So if you are handy with cars, you can cut the cost down a whole heap again. C.A.R.
7k Would have been the MoTeC M600/800 with full DL enabled, correct Scott? Still, sounds like dealer is putting a heafty mark-up on it...
sco_aus
Yeah it is, however that price was RRP from Motec.
C.A.R.
Must have gone up since I last checked... You can get the M600/800 for 3.5, but not all of the DL & other options are enabled. /Thread Hijack Off
