DreamZproject 240Z #365 build

Recommended Posts

I came to the very sad conclusion that I had to give up on my 260 full resto project, as full time work and a healthy social life was leaving me with little energy and time. This incredibly depressing scenario caused me to inspect the state of the Z market on Carsales and gumtree, and would you know it, within 2 minutes I spy an early number 240Z in the EXACT! colour I was looking for, advertised at a price I was willing to pay...

What a way to start my journey with this beautiful car; a nearly 2,000k roadtrip from Brisbane back home to Melbourne!

10k in to the trip the car was down and out. Broken down on the side of the highway. I nearly cried. Luckily Lock put the call out on the forum and within 10 minutes Matty shot me a call and was out to help me within 40 minutes! 20 minutes after that the issue was diagnosed and fixed (rust clogged fuel filter), and I was back on the road again!

The rest of the trip went by without issue, but was bloody scary at points where I was doing 110 it was pissing down rain, with the wind nearly blowing me into the next lane. Would drive 2,000k's in the car again? not any time soon, but with that sort of reliability, I am now very confident with it. :D

So the whole systems been deleted by the sound of it?

I'm assuming they were standard, even on early 240s??

If that's the case, who ever got it registered up here knew the right person.

Yeah the problem is those hoses get hard and dry over time. The motors seem to keep working but they can block up if people use plain water in them instead of that alcohol stuff.

Sinking the money into a good early 240z vs a rusty old 260z 2 seater was the better decision long term.

However when I sold my first 240z after buying my 72 240z because it was far less work, I always felt like I'd given up and "cheated" a little. But there is always something to do on these cars.

If you're ever feeling too busy with work etc.. and contemplate selling it, take it for a drive and then think about it again. I find each time I drive mine I fall in love with them all over again.

Only the bottle and pump was there!
And yes, quite probably...

Hahahha so you've been down to see the car already?

No I'm still in Sydney, the washer jets are in storage at my mum's house up at Kinglake, so if you have no other luck and are in desperate need there's always that option, but I'll need another set back eventually...

My guess is you're doing some kind of engine swap.. but I don't know what the cool kids are into these days.. :P
