Administrators gav240z Posted March 11, 2018 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2018 Hey folks, It looks like someone has decided to start making reproduction parts, but is listing them as genuine. Nothing wrong with reproductions, but listing them as genuine is deceitful. http://www.240260280.com/Marketplace/Fake%20Parts/Fake%20Z%20Parts.html Example here. https://m.ebay.com/itm/DATSUN-69-70-240Z-D-HUBCAPS-1st-Generation/123002344687?epid=17015123575&hash=item1ca382d4ef%3Ag%3AogoAAOSwBU1aihik And here. https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/wto/d/datsun-240z-hubcaps-excellent/6501221907.html

260DET
lol i no know they fake. That rough hole for the valve stem could be dangerous though if the cap rotates.
Administrators gav240z Posted March 15, 2018 Author Administrators Share Posted March 15, 2018 Now being sold as reproductions with a flat grey colour (not quite right).. https://m.ebay.com/itm/DATSUN-69-70-240Z-D-HUBCAPS-1st-Generation/123021432102?_trkparms=pageci%3A9136785c-27e5-11e8-a6f6-74dbd1800d55%7Cparentrq%3A270059c11620abc2dbdaa347fffc50e4%7Ciid%3A1&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236
gilltech
Don't complain - at least someone is at long last having a crack at making reproduction parts. And that manufacturer is listening to feedback such as the incorrect paint finish. Years ago we went down the same track with repro parts for early Mustangs, for which the originals were getting very hard to find in any sort of reasonable condition in wrecking yards. Over time the repro parts much improved in quality due to demand. Also, often the finish of repro parts today is superior to the originals due to improved technology. It's up to the consumer to compare old vs repro and decide which is right for him. By the time you find original hubcaps and repair/re-chrome/repaint them - they're thin metal - you'll be deep-in dollars-wise. These repros will be a viable option for many Z owners and will be perfectly fine for all but the pickiest judges looking at 5 vs 7 swage lines. gav240z
Administrators gav240z Posted March 15, 2018 Author Administrators Share Posted March 15, 2018 I'm not complaining, glad to see they are listed "correctly" and fixing a paint colour is easy. I think I already have 5 sets of these D caps anyway... all in various condition. You are correct, you will be in deep money wise with the originals by the time you've restored them. What we really need is more rust repair sections, in particular a rear valance section would have been nice, but I've started now. Usually these things become available after I've already gone to significant effort to source originals.
George
Very happy to see these reproductions. They'll get there with the colour and, hopefully, quality of materials and fit. Rickers
