JDM-TOY
Hey Guys Been a while since my last update. Finally got all my guages from AttSpeed Instrumens full calibration, had the clock fixed, had the rev tacho circuit changed to adapt to electronic distributors and the speedo face changed to Km/h. Also picked up all the under dash wiring and rear wiring picked up from Pro Wire. All cleaned up and taped up, not brand new but cleaner than previously. Not sure what I will do with the dash, its not cracked but some small blemishes. Keep it and reskin later or get it done now. I got a quote from a guy in Melbourne for $650, I think it was the Dash Dr. Edited September 17, 2018 by JDM-TOY OdinZ
Retro Z
I'd sell your Dash for around $500 or swap it and then reskin a cracked one as you get charged $650 regardless by the dash dr for a good or bad one. mossy
If you sell the dash try ebay, I sold one on ebay about 8 years ago and got over 1k for it. JDM-TOY
Administrators gav240z Posted September 18, 2018 Administrators Share Posted September 18, 2018 Got photos of the blemishes? You might be able to cover them up with a bit of black vinyl spray? JDM-TOY
JDM-TOY
Thanks @Retro Z @mossy @gav240z In general the dash is in pretty good condition other than the glovebox lid faded and the blemishes. I spoke to Karl who does interiors in Kings park in Sydney and he also mentioed that he can spray the dash with a vinyl spray. Im not sure if that will hold up and become sticky over time. I have a new glovbox badge so that going anyways. Cheers Youhan Edited September 19, 2018 by JDM-TOY
Retro Z
The vinyl paint works well and does not go sticky overtime. I used a stain black vinyl dye to touch up my dash and console and it blends in well with stock finish of the dash. gav240z and JDM-TOY

What he said, vinyl paint is 1 of the easiest to apply going around and it will cover a lot of those blemishes easily. Along with the glove box door. That dashboard looks to be in beautiful shape, has it already been re-skinned? Just make sure you use plenty of oil and wax removal on a cloth all over the dashboard (hopefully nobody went liberal with armour oil or similar on it) and then tape up the areas you don't want to get over-spray on and go for it. For the lid you can use a heat gun to revive the plastics (remove that faded look) but be really really careful not to over heat it. In fact I would probably practice on a spare if you have 1. Here is some photos (not the best) of when I restored my FD RX-7's rear storage bin divider panel. https://photos.app.goo.gl/f7PT6ZWH4BK86GDP9 There was quite a few scuff marks on it and some light fading, I used the heat gun to help improve it, but the final photo is after black vinyl paint. I'm not sure why it has that fish eye mark on the plastic (it wasn't the heat gun) but once installed in the car you can hardly see any marks on it. Photos (with flash) tend to highlight the flaws more so than the naked eye can see it. I would have shown you when you came around the other day if I knew about the dashboard before that. You can remove the "DATSUN 240Z" emblem from the lid (it's glued in) and can get the plastic chrome re-done on the inlay if you really want to give it pop like new! If you decide you still want to go down the re-skin path let me know? I may be interested in that dash for my 71 240z - since I want the patina look! JDM-TOY
@PB260Z I agree, great guy. Very easy going and honest. He did my RA23 Celica guages a while back before I changed them to VDO cockpit guages. As you said not cheap.
OdinZ
Silly question, can you not just buy Eastwood from that Australian website PPC Co? Think I also saw it on ebay too. I had dashboard doctor do my dash, and they also sprayed the glove box with black vinyl paint, turned out great. JDM-TOY
AndBir
Yes you can buy from PPCCo who are in Aust, or via their ebay store or you may find Eastwood products at some paint shops. I sourced some of mine from PPCCo and some I ordered via my closest paint shop in regional Victoria who had some Eastwood products but not all. JDM-TOY
Hey guys been a while since my last post. The car is still at the panel beaters and to be a little honest im getting annoyed with how long its taking to get my car done. I know these things take time but the shop has been quiet and they arnt taking insurance work so that the restos get done. But my car is still sitting there with the majority of rust work done and other cars are getting priority. I gave them a dead line but at this pace it looks to be next year. Anyways on the upside I finally recieved my Watanabe R 15 x 8 +0 wheels from Japan after 7 months wait, but definitely worth the wate. I cant get over the detail on the nuts with the falcon symbol on it. Its all Porn to be honest, happy I waited this long. So I will take the Toyo R888R off the steel wheels and transfer them to the Watanabes. And definitely wont be using the centre caps or nuts, their too nice to get damaged or stolen. dat240z, Ponyo240z, Zedhead and 1 other 3
Administrators gav240z Posted October 11, 2018 Administrators Share Posted October 11, 2018 Nice wheels, wish I could afford a set! Very very few panel shops are good at keeping on track time wise.

I'd recommend using the nuts. They have a swivel type base which prevents burring of the wheel when you tighten them up. Did you get a set of lock nuts too? Besides, you bought them and they look good, so may as well use them. If they get stolen they can always be replaced JDM-TOY

JDM-TOY
To my suprise the panel beater was sitting on the couch on his phone and my car just sitting there. Boy did I give him a mouth full and apparently now he will get stuck into my car.
lightmaster240z
It must be panel beater. Mine took 10 month after quoting 8 weeks.

I think 10 months is a good time to have a car restored. On my end I managed to quickly organise parts from the US and local to make the process smooth for him. But I don't understand, if your not busy get the work out. Whoo Knowzz
