600Z Posted September 6, 2017 Share Posted September 6, 2017 Hi Gav, I have one of the four post hoists the same as in the link below. It's easy enough to jack the car up while on it if you want to take the wheels off or do suspension work and much more stable and if you have the height at least you can stand under the car to work on it. No need to bolt down like a two post and comes with wheels if you want to move it around. I'd just work out what your wanting it to do and wether it would get in the way for some of the work your planning on doing. I also use mine for storage to get one of the cars up out of the way. nizm0zed Posted September 6, 2017 Share Posted September 6, 2017 Its expensive for what it is.Having said that, it'll work for what you want, but doing anything between the ramps is an absolute PITAIt looks stable enough to hold a zed or other mid size car.I havent used that exact one, but we had very similar at the tyre shop I worked at years ago.They get very dirty underneath because they can be hard to clean around.I have the same headroom problem in my shed and I did consider something like this but ultimately decided that it wouldnt be useful enough to me to justify the cost or space required.It helps that I own my house though so I could look at a proper hoist as one of my options. These do have the advantage of a very low floor profile so its supidly easy to get really low cars on them, that'll help with resale laterAircobra, this goes higher than axle stands, does it quicker and more conveniently and is a bit more stable. Thats about its only advantages though.Your still going to be lying on the ground for any work underneath it, but at least with stands you can still do gearbox/driveline work. The reviews and comments i saw around the place on them are very favourable. I was planning on mounting one column permanently in the shed, with the other pulled out into the middle when i wanted to lift something, That catch with this one is that the rams push up out the top and you can still have headroom clearance problems. I was just going to have a tube (Chimney sort of thing) on one side of the roof for the ram to extend into. But again, my house, i can mod it if i want... 600Z Posted September 7, 2017 Share Posted September 7, 2017 Hi Jonathan, The hoist comes with a jacking beam that runs between the platforms that you can slide back and forth. But also as your have the full platform (ramp)'either side you can use the normal scissor jack and normal jacking points. If you want to play with wheel alignment you can as well as the car is sitting on its wheels so it's easy to work on underneath rather then being on the ground. Thoughts? My only concern would be the locking. How does the magnetic lock work or does it. That's why i'd want to see one in the flesh. I'd get nervous buying stuff like this on ebay. Im fairly certain from looking at it, it requires (electrical or mechanical) input to release the lock, but the locks are always engaged, or about to engage in one of its lock positions when its lifted, regardless of whether it has power or not.
