I haven't used this person, but it sounds like they might be ideal for small items that are hard to find / rare and you don't want to get lost by the big boys in the business..

Do you need parts brought back to like new for a restoration project, or perhaps you want your modified vehicle to look that bit more special or even if you just want to protect certain components of your pride and joy from rusting then you probably want to get them Zinc plated and Chromate passified (some people call it Gold Cad plated). Zinc Chromate coating is primarily done to protect steel from rusting but it results in that distinctive and very attractive shiny yellow/gold finish with irridescent hughes of green, red and blue.

Most large commercial electroplaters are happy to do large quantities of components at a reasonable price but if you only have a couple of items you want done they can be prohibitively expensive. If your item has a somewhat complex shape or intricate surface details it will probably require manual surface finishing of the zinc plate and then they may not even be interested in your work.

I specialise in low volume/small batches and one offs. I utilise a small bath, individual part, personally monitored process with tailored placement of multiple anodes to achieve a more consistent Zinc plate thickness. This is followed by hand buffing of the zinc plate prior to Chromate passivation to guarantee the quality of finish for each component and I provide this service at very competitive rates. I will only work on one clients components at a time so there is no chance of your important, rare or irreplacable component getting lost or misplaced with another clients parts.

Depending on the size, shape (complexity) and number of parts to be plated, prices can start from as low as $5 for small items (possibly even lower) but there is no such thing as a "typical" part or price as each job is unique and so each job needs to be quoted based on the time it will take to complete.

The Zinc plating process can not replace metal that has been lost through rusting and severely corroded parts may need to be repaired (welded, ground and/or re-shaped) prior to receiving a Zinc Chromate coating. I do not generally provide this type of service however most old and rusty parts come up extremely well after just being properly cleaned of surface rust and contaminants. If the corrosion damage is not severe and doesn't negatively impact on a part's use then any part can certainly be made to look nice and be protected from further corrosion. Check out the before and after photos of a some 50+ year old Honda S600 parts that all had varying degrees of corrosion to see just what can be achieved and then give me a call to arrange a quote.
