CBR Jeff
I had another failed compressor to investigate today. Bit of a mess this one. It's a scroll compressor and they do not like being used as a hydraulic pump.
Moderators PB260Z Posted December 16, 2015 Moderators Share Posted December 16, 2015 Wow, that thing is a real mess, and caused by adding to much oil ?
CBR Jeff
No not to much oil. Most likely caused by oil returning from the system as a slug rather than in a continual manner. Or from liquid refrigerant flooding back (less likely given other indicators). The oil sump is actually on the discharge (hot gas) side of the compressor. It is a mess though but unlike a combustion engine that stops fairly quickly when it fails the electric motor driving these things can just keep churning along becoming a blender. 260DET
Yep, that's busted and needs fixing up
CBR Jeff
Just pulled another scroll compressor apart. This is what the compressor section is supposed to look like. This one has had oil problems. Beatings have picked up and spun in the housing. Shaft is also damaged.
