CBR Jeff
A good weekend in the shed. Was great to be working away and listening to the football finals. Only problem is most of my teams lost. At least the wallabies got up last night. The rear is now sorted, just some lead work to be done when I'm finishing off the rear quarters. I had a big clean up yesterday. I'm quite fussy when it comes to having a clean work area and I was just not happy with how the shed was looking. After that yesterday I changed the media in the sand blast cabinet then used it to blast the sections I cut out of the donor cut. Cleaned them up and under coated them in weld through primer. Today I fitted them with a bit of fussing around I managed to get them fitted and welded in. Then I drilled the new (rare spares) slam panel and fitted it. The Cleco pins got a good work out today. They are a very handy thing when doing jobs like this. The list is getting smaller :-). What came off/out Tacked in to place Ready to,be finished off Slam panel in place with cleco pins All welded in place. Beer time. CBR Jeff
Thanks boys. I'm very happy with the result. Went back in this morning and admired my work. I have been worried about this section repair as to me it's one of the iconic sections of these cars. Getting the rear quarters correct and matching is important to me. The rear 45 view is just it for me. Like legs....... ;-) Jeff gav240z
CBR Jeff
It's cold, raining and I have to go to a meeting at 4 so don't want to go to the shed and get dirty. Update time. Last week the boss and I traveled to Warragul and finally picked up most of my gear that was sitting at LCR. On the way we traveled down the Hume and dropped passed dattocams place and picked up a few small items that he had for me. John (Sirpent) I will visit you next time when I have more time. Then it was onto Warragul pick up the engine, efi gear fuel tank and a few other assorted items. Then back to Canberra up the Cann river and through Cooma. It was an interesting drive 1300 km in two days and one night spent in Benalla on the way. Friday was a very long day. We borrowed the van that we use to tow rally cars and service out of at various events around the country from a good friend who builds high quality role cages for top end competition cars. We had lots of room and for it's size it is easy to drive and goes like the clappers. It's also been fitted with a light pod with 4 x Cibie Turini lights that made the run across the Monaro dodging kangas a bit safer. Saturday was spent unloading the van, cleaning it and then dropping it back. Sunday Rocky and I made it into the shed. We took a tv down and watched The Sandown 500, drank tea and tinkered with lots of small jobs. We cleaned up the engine mount brackets and gear box mount. Sand blasted then painted with POR15 and then engine enamel. Found all of the nuts and bolts to mount the gearbox to the engine and stuck the two old mates back together. The starter motor was then pulled apart (it was just black at the start) cleaned up given a bit of a service and re assembled and put back on the engine. daretobedifferent came down from Sydney on Monday and picked up the rear cut. This has freed a bit of space up in the shed. Tuesday afternoon was spent back on the shell. I found the stone guards that are fitted under the front guards. Cleaned them up, panel bet them and started to get them ready to be re fitted. They were welded on when they were removed but are going to be re fastened with nuts and bolts and sikaflex not liquid metal. More this weekend.... CBR Jeff
Life is all about making the best or most of opertunities. Today was a good example of that. Finishing a project off earlier than planed I had the opertunity to spend the afternoon in the shed, happy days. It's good the break a big project into chunks and get each chunk done and dusted, then tucked away with all of its components ready to be installed when needed. I picked up the fuel tank with the efi pump installed (thanks Lurch) from LCR last week. It was sitting in the shed just needing cleaning up painting, gathering all the parts associated with it and getting them ready for assembly and instalation when needed. So this afternoon I started and should be able to get it finished over the weekend. I took the in tank pump out of the tank Taped up all of the holes in the tank and stripped off the paint. I used paint stripper and water. I cleaned the fuel tank straps up at the same time. I was surprised (but should not have been) how much rust was hiding under the original paint. After going through the 3 step process I painted all the parts with POR-15. Black for the tank and silver for the straps. The straps needed some serious tin bashing to get then straight. The fastners also had a clean up and a bit of an update I'll find all of the fuel filler parts and get them cleaned and ready for instalation and apply some topcoat to these parts over the weekend. KatoKid
Very nice Jeff. Which fuel pump module are you using?
CBR Jeff
Thanks Dave. The pump is the one Lockie put in the tank ;-). It's an efi hardware pump. It's a dead head pump so it doesn't need a return line much simpler to plumb than some options. I can post the details if you want them? CBR Jeff
It was a long weekend in Canberra to celebrate family's so what should you do? Yep work in the shed for some of it. Fuel tank and associated parts are organised and I know what I need to replace or repair. Also managed to get some painting done with the application of some POR-15 on the inner front guards after a few repairs and some welding. The shed was graced with the presence of two fellow enthusiasts today when chris240 and Reddog dropped passed for a visit. Great to catch up with you two. Rocky had a great day meeting and greeting you two plus most of the walkers and dogs who wondered passed. CBR Jeff
Another long weekend. Lots of football and F1 to distract. I had to build up the brownie points a bit but managed a few hours in the shed. I started cleaning up the battery carrier, filled up the holes left from removing it and made it ready to be coated with POR-15. I'm going fasten this with nutcerts so it can be removed and cleaned as per the Lurch method. Also finished stripping the engine bay almost ready for the POR treatment. I uncovered lots of surface rust under the paint on the radiator support. There was no indication that this was present so I'm glad I decided to strip this area. Rocky was very tired after the confusion to his system caused by daylight savings so he had to sleep most of the time but was happy to get up to eat and go for a walk. Out of town this week with work so won't be any action until next weekend. The TV is set to be taken to the shed next Sunday. CBR Jeff
After a weekend of sickness then a weekend away at a MTB race it was great to have a weekend at home and healthy. Kicked off with a lap of Mt Stromlo on the MTB bike on Saturday and a few jobs around the house so I was able (allowed) to spend today in the shed. I took a TV down and had the V8's on in the back ground, very enjoyable. I removed the front section of the rotisserie so I could finish a rust repair off. Then another small rust repair and it was time to paint on some POR-15 on the radiator support panel and battery frame. While I was waiting for it to dry enough to apply a second coat I started the heater box/fan reconditioning process. I stripped, cleaned and painted the fan section fitting the Honda fan I purchased from CraigZ a few moths ago. Then I managed to start on the coil/air box section but didn't get It finished. I'll get the rotisserie back on this week once the POR is sufficiently cured and keep Rolings along. I will see how this week goes but the air box looks like a good job for one evening this week now it not below zero at night! CBR Jeff
Another MTB ride yesterday then I finished off the heater box. It was the project during the week and it just needed re assembly yesterday. I then started the pedal box, pulling it apart and cleaning, blasting and then prepping it for painting that I should get to today. Some parts also arrived at the local Nissan dealer this week. I wanted a new set of the rubber spacer washers for the gearbox mounts and as I could still get them and after inspectin of the door handles on my doors I decided to get a new set. Back onto work on the shell today. Jeff jeff43 and KatoKid

CBR Jeff
Thanks Lockie. They are small pipes for 300+ HP :-). Look forward to the call as always. Big weekend on the car. Pedal box is back together after a clean up strip and paint, looks like new. Engine bay is painted in POR and looks great although I do have a couple of spots that ended up with some bubbles due to being a bit over enthusiastic with the coverage. They will be fairly easy to address later before primer. Onto the underside this week then inside. Time for a beer and the moto GP.
