red76z Posted February 8, 2015 Share Posted February 8, 2015 I have been building a ls1 Z over the last 4 years in my shed at home with about a day a week to spend on the old girl. I have attached a few photos to get you up to speed with my progress so far. Sorry about the time period from the start to now but i have not been able to download the pictures from my phone until now. like the rest of you doing a ground up build it has been a long journey cutting rust out and and replacing it with new steel. but the progress is so worth it. Plus grafting motor g/box diff, brakes and other parts from other vehicles keep's you thinking all the way. The one with the black front is just after i made the air inlet holes in the nose bigger to accommodate the 4" cold air intake that you will see later. The flat tin cut out is that i bent up is to form strengthening brace along the front engine frame rails, these tie into the strut towers and the fire wall to stop any body twist along with the stitch welding that I proformed under the entire cars seams. It is the product that they put in the back of Ute trays. very Tough . It will stop any stone and prevent rust. red76z Posted February 8, 2015 Author Share Posted February 8, 2015 Thanks for the comments guys. The motor ls1 5.7 The gear box t56 6 speed The diff is out of the Holden commodore V8. It was grafted into the original zed cradle by a local engineer and the zed half shafts were joined to the commo cv. All bolt in and NOT relying on any front nose to body mount system. He did a awesome job. The tail shaft is the commodore unit but shortened about 5 foot. Braking system is Hylux up front with 300zx rotor and the rear is R31. Check out the thread on brakes and hand brake mods as i have posted some handy tips on how to do this mod. I am runing a high pressure efi pump with returne lines to the motor from a drop tank that i grafted into the original zed tank to stop any fuel surge issues. You may have noticed that the front guards have flutes in them, they are from a rare spairs ht hj patch panel. In this photo they are just sitting in there yet to be welded in. The entire car has been striped to bare metal repaired resealed and then painted. The inside cabin is covered in that heat/sound deadening stuff. The exhaust system was built buy 240zedau (Mick) he used his system as a template to make mine. His car is a 240z and i have a 260z 2+2 so a few different bits then he shiped them to me in pieces so i could weld them in place for that perfect fit. As you guys know 1 mod leads to 2 other mods, but all good. If you want more info please post and I will try to answer any questions. Regards Scott. So out with the dash and heater core to fix the problem. While apart I will replace the short hoses as well. Dont want to take this out again.
