Moderators PB260Z Posted February 11, 2017 Moderators Share Posted February 11, 2017 Those 1970's Celicas are a good looking car, real shame that most of the ones in Aus missed out on the 18RG twin cam engine. gav240z

Administrators gav240z Posted March 11, 2017 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2017 I know I know "don't mention the war!" but I have a soft spot for this. Lovely 1965 Porsche (RHD) and interestingly the original guards were re-fitted after a flare job done previously to it. Something just right about the original hubcaps and wheels too! Moderators PB260Z Posted March 12, 2017 Moderators Share Posted March 12, 2017 Never really got the Series 4 RX-7. The Series 2 was my first exposure to fast Japanese cars that also handled. They just seemed to loose the edge with the S4 - they got it back with the S5.

CBR Jeff
This is one of the cars that changed Motorsport but particularly rally for ever in the early 1980s. It's a long video but worth the watch. Amazing attention to detail and correctness. Some very cool engineering in these cars. The AWD was a big step forward as was the gearbox. These cars stopped the dominance of the BDA Escorts. Comparing the two cars is just chalk and cheese. Jeff

Enzo
Real men building an engine. Not a pair of rubber gloves in sight. Damn the oil and dirt. Full steam ahead. They probably have a spittoon in the corner. Great video with a catchy tune. Me likey.

HS30-H
Wrinkle red finish on valve cover. Looks like this is the black version on an S20 engine. Ironically enough, the only S20 valve/Cam/'tappet' covers that were wrinkle BLACK were the works race team ones on the 'R' head castings (some of which were magnesium....). It's a known known. The *correct* wrinkle finish colour for the standard production S20 valve covers on the other hand is a rabbit hole that just gets deeper the further you go down it. At some point you pop out into alternative reality. It's an unknown unknown where 100 people who are sure they know the truth all have a different answer... I've got three and they are all different. Were the standard production colours a grayish colour? Was it a powder coated finish or something else? I guess I'm opening up that rabbit hole aren't I? I was going to get mine powder coated but after watching that video above I may attempt to paint it first and see how it turns out. I saw this finish recently on a LARGE NISSAN cover and really like it. However I also like the subtle black version as seen on the SMALL NISSAN cover. But I just sold a 'small' version hoping to find a Nissan 2400 OHC cover at some stage. I quite like the contrast of the red cover against Safari Gold and in lieu of the standard orange airbox that SUs have in an L-series engine bay. But on the other hand I like the subtle finish also. Good thing about valve covers is you can easily switch them around I guess...
