And I wouldn’t mind betting that you found a few long forgotten treasures in the process

I found this hidden away behind a pile of stuff. Also found the original engine for it (which hasn't been in the car since around the mid 80's) stuffed under the bench that the lathe sits on, covered in a pile of swarf.

I'm halfway to posting them, they're all boxed up and sitting under my desk at work.

They have been for a month or two (or maybe even three.....), just got to remember to take it to the post office.

Will get it done this week (unless I forget ::) )

I was looking at buying 1 of these Warehouses out in Bang-a-rat (Ballarat)

Same kind of price as the Moorabbin Mancaves but a lot more appeal and space and don't think there would be the same level of strata.

Not sure if there is contamination concerns being an old munitions depot.

I'd have to live in it, can't afford a house + that. :)

Guess I could build a mezzanine level and live upstairs!

At 1 stage I was looking in Broadmeadow (Newcastle) and found this place, but was too late, someone had already put a deposit down!

It came with a free house lol..but would have made a cool garage.

Could you live in a factory if you bought one (legally)

Depends on the zoning it falls into, in some cases it would be no problem if it's already in a residential zone or semi-residential area. For other heavy Industrial areas you may have issues. You can apply for a caretakers residence - even in very industrial areas, but in many cases you may not want to because of noise, dust or industrial processes in the area that may not be good for human health as long term exposure and so on..

For example this place in Coburg was mixed in with residential homes in the area.

However that doesn't mean peace and harmony.

However when I look through lots of industrial properties / warehouses I often see signs of someone living in them.

Check these out.

2 old workshops that were turned into town houses.

I know the area well because when I first got my 73 240z back in the late 90s. I took my 240z to the workshop out the front (Beaurepairs) for some new tyres etc..

Anyway I went and had a look when I was in Melbourne over Christmas time (I recall it being very warm) and checked 1 of them out in person.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/k6tYd0JYmHSWwQNW2

I love the look of the places and how they were converted, but they are asking too much $$$ for them. Considering they are really Townhouses and not individual plots of land with no real scope to increase their size and tiny yards with shared drive.

Then I found this 1 in Ivanhoe and thought it could have similar potential but it was incredibly small..no room to put the cars (even if you built up 2 floors)..

https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-vic-ivanhoe-127702994

and finally this 1 I'm still a bit bitter about. As I had the strongest $$$ offer on the place and got swindled out of it at the 11th hour and 55 mins to midnight. I believe they call it Gazumping - although it was more about contractual conditions than monetary offer being stronger from the other party. The agent sandbagged on deposit details so he could entice another offer into the ring. Some agents lie about everything, so when they do actually say something true you don't believe it, in my case I was told there was a second offer, which after all the other lies I didn't believe. So anyway...

Video here.

But perhaps in future I'll be the 1 laughing? :P I saw it in person later and thought it's just a brick box.. My uncle is a bricklayer and my nephew is a chippie, so if I want to build something similar in future I probably could, for far less than than the asking price of that place.

Yeah I reckon it would be quite cold, hence the fireplace in the outside area. So it may not be as functional as it is cool looking.
