chris240
Hmmmm Disagree New webers hover around $450-500 if thats a canon manifold add $350-400 , plus the linkages say $100 plus ram tubes say another $120-160.... Do the math, seems ok $ to me for a sensible mild L28. If all that gear is new, Id say its looking pretty good, better hurry up as the aussie dollar is slipping
Retro Z
Thats what i was thinking. I havent come across a kit locally for less than $1500 and those were all 2nd hand in need of a rebuild etc.

Retro Z
Ive scoured ebay, gumtree and check here regularly. Also asked rob and Lindsay from the Z shop/z factory?. No one has d40's for sale at the moment that don't require a rebuild. Most ive seen are 50mm's and over 1.5k hence why ive been looking in USA and UK. I want something i can buy, bolt-on and get tuned. Dont really want to mess around with rebuilding and sourcing little bits and peices. Want to point me in the right direction Simon?? Why hold back for!
luvemfast
Join a club. Network. Done But saying that. I've bought 3 sets of triple Mikuni's from the states................ 2 sets needed rebuilding. 1 set reassembly. Got a set of twins to put back together, when I have time Buy a set and rebuild them yourself. You'll learn how they work and get to know everything about them! gav240z
G
Nowhere in the ad does it state those carbs are Webers. Apparently the Chinese are doing copies now - they could be it. Seen this ad? Seems like a good deal to me.. SK OER 40's and all the kit for $1k CAD. http://www.ontariozcar.com/forum/showthread.php?2012-SK-OER-triple-carbs-for-sale
Retro Z
Any Carb experts on here know a ballpark cost to recondition these carbs by eyeballing them? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360623088982&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en The reason i ask is they are in USA and can't exactly carry them in for a carb specialist to look at. I can get them for roughly $1250 delivered. New ones will cost around $1800 delivered.. which i'm really considering to buy.
d3c0y
Get a quote from Top End Performance in the states so you know what you can get new ones for. They are pretty cheap new these days.
luvemfast
I wouldn't pay that for 40mm webers that need reconditioning. But in saying that. I think I sold my 40mm Mikuni's for about $1700. But they were fully stripped back and rebuilt. Why not go 44 Mikuni's and choke them down? I've bought 3 sets from the USA in the past, from forums. Not ebay. Thanks Simon thats the kind of answer im looking for. I have seen a few on Forums but none want to go through Paypal or post international :-\ and not too fond of the idea of sending $1.5k or so overseas to an anonymos person..rather go through Paypal/ebay or company who takes Credit Card so im covered. Still tossing up whether to get 40/45's. Read dozens of threads and answers are 50/50. I havent come across any new Mikunis 44's yet will considering it but might just go Webers as they seem to be plentiful and there is alot of info on them. But my options are open at the moment. OER 45's are 2 grand brand new and delivered from Japan. Got a link?
G
Here's the link http://lupinusflower.ocnk.net/ I bought some last week and the deal was via Paypal. I found it easiest to email them, rather than order through the site. They then sent me an invoice via Paypal. There's also a guy in Canberra who rebuilds Mikunis, but I would need to look for his site for you..

luvemfast
You can't buy new Mikuni's anymore. Stopped making them in the late 90's. Can of worms. But guys who've had and/or worked on Webers and Mikuni's, prefer Mikuni's
peter mc
Love the solex carbs for the L there a treat to work with , and for the L 28 go with the 44 every time , the new webers have nothing on the old solex carbs , if you can find some 13 webers from the Italy there very good as well , pay a bit more for the old carbs and your car will drive so much better , look on yahooo japan they come up from time to time , we got some last week gav240z
Administrators gav240z Posted May 30, 2013 Administrators Share Posted May 30, 2013 Retro Z - you shouldn't buy carbs until you know what you want from the engine. For that I'd consult someone like Peter. For the record I bought my Mikuni's from the US on eBay about 8 years ago 44's baby! http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=15 http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=1074&fullsize=1 No problems, but I think I paid over PayPal and I declared them as motorcycle parts, didn't get taxed on it that way . Just give them a clean up and new gaskets Note that the last 2 have heat sheilds underneath. This is vital to stop vapour lock!
Retro Z
Wow thanks guys appreciate all the help. Thanks for the tips Peter will start looking at Solex's. Retro Z - you shouldn't buy carbs until you know what you want from the engine. For that I'd consult someone like Peter. I will be using the car primarily for street. I'll be ditching my l28et setup to go carbs. Not looking for big power otherwise id stay with the turbo..been there done that. Looking for something that looks and sounds nice with abit of get up and go for when i take it to off street drags etc. Unsure of whether to - keep my whole setup 200kw L28et, microtech, aftermarket turbo, n42 man, intercooled etc. -Or strip off the efi/turbo gear and bolt on the triples. My current engine is P90a/f54 us engine. -Sell entire lot and start again with N42 block. Not looking for a crazy PMC rocket engine...well not just yet!! I Might need to go for a drive in triple carb L28 to get an idea..
Agno
I cannot suggest this enough Tai: BUY TRIPLE 44 MIKUNIS AND GET PETE TO TUNE THEM! While I'm happy with my 40s, for the sake of a saving a couple of hundred I have learnt the hard way just to do it right the first time.
