    Visited the Meiji Shrine in Shibyua City today. We arrived and found this in the car park. Went for a walk and just missed catching up with the owner by a few minutes as he was driving off as we arrived back in the car park. Very disappointed we didn’t get to say G Day. Jeff
  3. Help needed. I know what it is but for the life of me I cannot remember where it goes. The main body earth link wire. It’s about 250mm long and a 4mm wire. Can someone let me know where it goes from and too on a standard car please. Almost the last piece of the under bonnet puzzle. Jeff

    Thanks boys. The fine earth wire from the negative terminal to the fire wall will be the same wire just a different location. I’m guessing that either the factory changed it over the years or it’s been relocated for good looks. Jeff

    They must have it installed some place or the earth circuit would not work. My car had it installed (originally) at the bonnet latch. I worked that much out as it was in the container with the latch but could not remember where the other end went. I have put it back as Mr Nimoy and PB have said and as it was originally and it looks ok. Jeff

    Peter If you have moved the lower arm pivot points and the tension rod is too short its probable that the toe angle is changing as the suspension travels (bump steer) more than it would normally Also your caster is not be correct as you said. All of this is making the car very steering sensitive. A steep strut angle (as you now have) (less caster) will make the steering very lively where as a slack strut angle (more caster) will make the steering less active. Jeff

    It looks to me as if you have them in the correct spot. I suggest you wind the window down a little, loosen off the front slide. Grab the window glass through the door and lift the front of it up so the back edge of the glass is parallel with the rear of the window sash. Then secure the slide, wind the window up and tighten everything up. The problem is that the glass is down at the front. Jeff

    When I was putting my driver’s door back together (passengers not done yet) recently I had a similar problem. I resolved it by loosening off all of the runner and sash bolts. The runner that the window regulator runs on and the runner or slide that the window glass slides on (at the front of the door) plus the sash mounting to allow the sash to move a bit. I wound the window up and pushed the glass into position snugly. Then wound the window up tight. Then returned and tightened all of the runner/slide and sash bolts into position. Photos are of the instructions from the manual that I read after doing the work. Jeff

  15. Time to start a build thread… I purchased this car in October 2014 from Dolls Point in Sydney from an Ebay seller. It looked ok but upon inspection in person it had all the usual early Datsun problems with rust etc. The car ran quite well with a newish L26 having been fitted at some stage. The car also came with the original matching numbers L24 motor (This is probably what clinched the deal for me). The car is rusty but not as bad as some, I probably paid a bit too much for it but it’s all there and its only money after all and you cannot take it with you. I picked her home in late October and so the journey begins First thing I did was to fit new tyres, cleaned a few things up and took it to rego inspection in November to see what would happen. It failed on two items, rust in the drivers floor (not the only place but only place that seemed to matter) and the turn indicators not flashing fast enough (they worked but are a bit slow, like me) With Christmas then holidays for most of January and a work trip nothing much happened until March 2015. After getting our shed organised, cleaned out and purchase of some equipment, work has now started in earnest. After closer inspection of the rust and mechanicals a clear path has been set and the wheels are now in motion. Lots of parts have been ordered components removed cleaned and shipped off for repairs or modifications. I decided to start work on the passenger’s side (good place to practice as I won’t see that side as much) The Sill has been removed and replaced, Most of the sound proofing has been removed (renovators are an amazing tool for this). Rear quarter is next in this area with a new outer cut and inner guard to be fitted. Struts have been removed stripped cleaned up and sent to MCA for Josh to sort out. Gearbox and Diff have been removed had years of gunk cleaned off and shipped to LCR (the original L24 will also go south) I will try to keep this sort of up to date but I would rather spent time in the shed, not on the computer…..

    Thanks Dave Yep the Meta 29. 170mm up front and 160mm down back. Long and low. Descends like a DH bike but still climbs like a trail bike. Bloody ripper. Thanks Jeff. It does look very sexy. Thanks. Nice little hard tail those Malin's enjoy. I like the plushness of long travel suspension myself :-). Jeff

    A few old friends were re united this weekend. Engine gear box are back in the car. Half the exhaust has been fitted. Both L and R quarter windows have new rubbers and have been shoe horned into position (that was a job and a half with the new rubbers). Plus a few more small jobs. Progressing a bit slowly as I have been distracted by a new ride in my life. Picked up a new MTB a few weeks ago and it’s so much fun to ride. Jeff

    Car Yoga was the order of the day. Finished off fitting off the heater and fan assembly fitted the steering column the peddle box and the dash. Then moved onto finishing off the breaks in the engine bay and sticking some of the rubber bits down/on. I must say I am impressed with what I have seen so far of the rubber components that arrived this week. There are just so many goodies with lots of small items I’m not even sure where they go yet. Ill head off to work tomorrow with a new found flexibility J. Jeff
