Hey guys, just a question (or suggestion if answer is no). Is there a forum application that works with this website? Or a mobile version that I can log into? This website works on my phone, but I have noticed it doesn't work as well as hybridz or performance forums (which I think use different software). Biggest problem I've found is with the resizing of pages. In threads the content seems to sit in a frame, so when you resize to read text, the pictures/text get cut off by the frame. makes it very hard to read/navigate. I am using an android phone by the way.

tapatalk is a forum app that lets you use the forum on your mobile, without using a full web page. Not sure if its compatible with this forum though.

Its my plan for 2013 to make the site more mobile friendly / optimised. For example right now I am replying from a cafe on my phone but its a frustrating user experience.

Awesome, looking forward to it (most of my viewing is from a mobile).

I have never had any trouble using this forum on my iPhone. To me it's no different to using it on my lap top, just a lot smaller  But then with other forums I usually scroll to the bottom of the page and click full site because I find tap talk and other mobile forum apps limiting.

Just want to bump this up again. How many of you like hybridz experience on mobile devices?

I ask because I had planned to learn SQL migrate the site to Drupal and create a new site template with mobile version etc.. But I've just not found the time.

I'm almost about to purchase the same software as used on Hybrid Z which will give a direct migration path and is mobile friendly out of the box. But want feedback from those using Hybridz in terms of what you do and don't like about it etc..

One thing I could never work out after they moved to the new software was how to see updates to subscribed threads. I find a written around on the computer but couldn't find a way on the mobile.

I find it annoying on my iPad, It's fine when it is just text but when there is a picture in the thread
you have to scroll sideways to see the photo.
other then that it's fine.

Some of us old buggers that may have crook eyesight, or find it a bit difficult to use some of the mobile phones out there, may use a larger screen type device ( ipad or tablet) for better viewing pleasures.

Hi Gav

Works just fine for me on both the iPhone 4s and iPad 3.

To clarify viewing on mobile vs mobile accessible and optimised are 2 different things.

One thing I could never work out after they moved to the new software was how to see updates to subscribed threads. I find a written around on the computer but couldn't find a way on the mobile.

I take it you're referring to HybridZ.org?

the site is super awkward to navigate on mobile devices.... yes its possible but its painfull!! is a responsive theme not available for the current platform?? if not it would be super easy to develop one. PM me if your looking for someone to collab with

Agreed, it's super awkward. A more agile theme could be available but I don't want to spend more time developing a platform that is sub-optimal should I say? :).

I appreciate your offer to help. I will definitely reach out to you if I think you can help, but I think this will be after migrating to a new platform or perhaps testing the new platform?

I find it annoying on my iPad, It's fine when it is just text but when there is a picture in the thread
you have to scroll sideways to see the photo.
other then that it's fine.

Yes it's also annoying having to scroll left to right, should only have to scroll up and down. Mobile optimised images would also be handy for speed and load time.

Speaking of which I want to use a CDN (Content Delivery Network) to speed up the site. Since it's currently hosted in the US which is not ideal for all of us in Australia, but first migrating to a new platform will help should I decide to move hosting also. Right now the site runs 3 different bits of software so by migrating to a new platform and consolidating to 1 it means I only have to backup 1 database, and develop 1 theme and manage 1 framework of code.

Basically we have technical debt... which has slowed feature adoption on the site.

Some of us old buggers that may have crook eyesight, or find it a bit difficult to use some of the mobile phones out there, may use a larger screen type device ( ipad or tablet) for better viewing pleasures.

Yep and a larger type face would go a long way to making the site more accessible for you 'older buggers'.

Thanks for all your feedback so far. Keep it coming if you have thoughts or suggestions?

If it comes down to money Gav sing out.

Personally I only use mobile devices these days other than at work.

It sure would be nice to have the ability to upload pics from iPhone and iPads.
Don't know what's involved. But I'm sure you can figure it out  ;)

Yeah a native application would make that more seamless but a good mobile based UI would also be helpful.

I was about to reply about the stupid limitations of iPads and their sand boxing of apps, but then I realised there was a button marked 'attachments and other options', so I tried it out - Gavs car seems to have uploaded fine (had no small enough photos on the iPad, had to save one)

Don't know if Gav just added this functionality over the weekend, but no problem uploading photos from the iPad, not really any different to my PC... Which is odd, given the stupid things normal shortcomings in this area.  I mean, seriously, you can't attach multiple document types to an email?

Um, how do you upload from the ipad to the site?

I hit "reply" hit " attacments and options" but, it does not allow one, when using an ipad, to select anything.
