Triple Carbs vs Fuel Injection

Ok... I wanted to conduct some kind of poll (not sure how to set up) to see what everybody would choose.

You have to assume that time/money/complications are not an issue here. Would you choose the "old school" carb setup or injection if you could?

I think injection may result in more power, but you do lose that 70's feel, nothing like a set of triple's and the noise they make!

What does everyone think?

I was wondering the same thing, until I heard and had a good look

at dimitri's fuel injected l28 260Z. the flexibility of that system tends to appeal to me more than triple webbers as it's more flexible and mine's going to be a daily.

anyway, just my two cents

Yes I agree Fuel Injection with multiple throttle boddies is definately better.

If I can afford to do it I will choose that system over tripple Mikuni's.

However if your flat our racing it's not going to make a huge difference. On the street though F.I would win hands down.

I don't think the stock ZX gear is really worth all the effort myself. Especially since the cost of parts for it is way over priced these days.

i agree with gav...

money no option

motec or autronic, with mulitple throttles, tuned to perfection....

this i have heard from people running webbers who have gone to fuel injection getting an extra 20-30hp, on one of those 300hp L series and heaps better low and mid range response, but look at spending 4-6k easy with tuning, and fuel setup and hardware.

id go with webbers if i could find them cheapish and i had a fantastic engine to match it, but with the carb option it would just be a in between till i have the cash flow to get fuel injection.... i know when i get older, i don't want to spend hours on the weekend fixing the little things to get the car running, id rather be working on things to make it better and not worrying about the carbs being out of tune....

talk to jeremy, vertexZ, about the 280zx setup, about running costs etc, IMO getting a 280zx injection setup will cost about the same these days as finding a good set of 240z Su carbs anyway, but id still be going the Su's over the 280zx injection....

  • 2 weeks later...

I have both 240z SU and EFI sitting waiting for me to choose. I will be going EFI as for the road will be better option + I get to learn about EFI (I have only had zeds with SU or triples before) so I have megasquirt that will put together, N42 non EGR intake manifold and RB20DET o-ring injectors and I have a o-ring fuel rail coming from the US + I will be installing the BMW 735i TB on the front (67mm)

So EFI gets my vote. But for a racecar - triples either EFI or Carbs is the way to go.
