I even tried to see if they could find 920 safari gold, but nothing, might have to do a little more digging. ;D

I'll tell you what I was very tempted to go 920 but when searching that colour I only saw a few I really liked, I think a lot were just 40 year old paint and just looked dull.

Mossy. Those colours are available in the 'Dulon' brand in a paint shop (Olarenshaws) near me in Sunshine. Doesn't your paint shop have the manufacture colour charts?? or if you know anybody with the colour borrow their fuel flap and get it mixed up. Or maybe just try another paint shop.

Thanks for the help guys, had a test chip made up of 918 but wasn't convinced it was for me, so a new non factory colour has been chosen for the 240 and I'm very happy with it, a sneak peek will be revealed on my build thread soon  ;)

The best colour reference information that I know of (and you probably do too!) is http://zhome.com/History/colors.html

This suggests that, as you say, 260Z's were not available in '918 Orange'..

It should be noted that this list is based on US market cars only and is not 100% accurate for our market - i.e. my 240Z is an original 307 Blue Metallic - a colour that that was not available on US 240Z's.

Can you post a photo or two of the paint you found?
It would help to identify the colour and whether it is part of the original factory paint job - or possibly, an earlier and more extensive respray.

Maybe you can also shove your phone/camera right up under the dash (like in the pic below) and/or similar tricky places to see what colour you find there too.

I've definitely seen orange 260z's around over the years usually with a white interior. Not sure if it was 918 orange or another shade. I suspect it's a bit lighter than 918 though.

Looks like it might be 110 red as you say, that's what mine is; more of an orange-red actually, quite different to any of the reds that the 240Zs used.

It's faded away by now but the paint colour # was printed on a silver metallic sticker on the top of the radiator panel near the bonnet prop rod.

I think you are probably right about it being 110 Red. Colours look very different when they are next to other colours.

There is a 110 Red 240Z featured on this (2012) page -

https://vintagekraft...72-datsun-240z/

The author talks about a "sweet red or orange Datsun 240Z" owned by one of the stars of the 1980's TV show "Eight Is Enough". He then talks about a Craiglist ad for a

"1972 reddish-orange number".

Even the Craigslist ad apparently described it as "Red/Orange ext (Color Code 110 red)"

It looks kinda orange in the photos too -

110 does look quite orange in some lights - look at my avatar, the car looks red there, yet in some photos taken at the same time as that one the car looks very orange indeed.

If you look at the one in the link that GongZ posted above, look at the radiator support - near the end of the prop rod is the metallic sticker that the colour # was printed on.
