TBOWGN
Hi guys, I'm assuming that black vinyl/plastic bag betwee the windscreen and fire wall is the motor for the window washers... Unless someone can tell me different? Due to stripping my entire 76 2+2 260Z I'm wanting to get all that gear out so i can sand blast and clean out the space. I've tried undoing the wipers, but struggled to take it all out without damaging anything... Does anyone know how to? If not I'll just leave it in there. Cheers, Lars
Scoota G
Hey there, it's the wiper motor and because of the moisture involved in the area the bolts rust and stick like a Mickey T slick. Spray from underneath with a can of CRC with a nozzle to reach. Loosen them but back it off half a turn every now and then. Take your time not to build up too much heat in the bolt. My best advice is if there's no rust to attack under there just leave it in position after cleaning the bag and spray with tyre shine to stop the next layer of paint sticking. handsandwhich
If you are going to sandblast, you will be left with a heck of a lot of stuff that will get lodged in under the motor that will be trapped there forever. Best to take it out completely so you can blow all the excess media out of there after it is done.
TBOWGN
Thanks boys. Would that be the same with soda blasting? Because I think ill try and leave it in there (depending on the rust of course)
Ben
remove it, regrease the motor, and clean up the mess underneath it. take your time, and use plenty of WD40/CRC/RP7/INOX (choose your poison!)
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 2, 2012 Moderators Share Posted January 2, 2012 If you can remove that low profile 12mm nut from the motor to remove the wiper linkage, it makes removal alot easier. It's a bit like a Chinese puzzle but it is possible. Remove the four bolts that hold the motor down and when you lift it, you should have enough clearance to get to that motor nut.
