Yes true Rev. That is probably why I stuck with the original rear lights on my car although I did make some slight mods so cleaning wasn't such an issue. I got rid of the silver by smoothing over the rear light surrounds. But changing the rear lights does change the character of the car.

For square tail lights i think this one from malaysia is the best. I also really really want those side skirts

Those are the earlier Corvette C4 lamps previously mentioned and do work really well, they are also available with the amber combination lenses and reverse lamps.

Also one of the nicest ferraries the F40 (damn lotto numbers don't want me  >:() has similar "squared" bum and has round lights.

John up for the conversion? keep it euro style you got going on!  ;D

It's great to see you back on the forum Johnny, yeah lotto numbers, damn it !

I think the trick here is that any lamp combo can work, however the trick is what the "Z" designers originally came up with even with the lamps they used on the 240's and 260's, you just cant flat panel the back and bolt on lamps, it needs to be broken up with a certian degree of busy shapes, and garnished so as the panel has depth of field to the observer otherwise it's boring.

Am I up for a conversion ? not sure, I would like to do something different but not at the cost of "Change for change sake" it would have to do 3 things , be functional, look like a modern interpritation of what the manufacturer would have worked up to if the car had continued to develop alonfg the same lines as the steady progress you see on a 911 for instance, and recieve majority support as an enhancement rather than just an alternative.

Will see I guess.

Yeah i def agree its got to keep the orginal lines and characteristics of the car ie not just a flat panel. These ones look quiet good for a round conversion

did you really have to put this one?  ;D thanks (believe it or not i still got half worked on r32 lights conversion for it which i gave up on)

I think the GT40 or Ford GT as it is actually known these days is probably the best example here close to an S30 in rear panel shape and also what the Ford boys did to make it work.

Consider taking out the 2 duct cuts and filling them in, it would look flat and bland and wouldnt work, they kept it simple with single large well preportioned lamps but then styled the overall panel with the ducts for maximum visual effect, I think this would work just as well on an S30.

Who's going to fire up Photo Shop?

Yes John those are the rear Vette lights I was thinking of. Thanks for putting up a better pic. If I was to change they would probably be my preference. I love the red Zeds rear posted above those rear lights as well. Looks great.

I think everyone can see what i mean now by the effect incorporating distractive features like the vent etc do to help break up the rear, any round light would do the job as long as its the right proportion.

The garnish I used is the one previously posted from the Ford GT.

I think it all works well together except for the fact that the section I used from the GT was at a slightly higher camera angle and hence they look a twy out of alignment.

i definately think version 2 looks better.
The incorporated exhausts are a lot nicer.
Maybe make them a bit smaller though, they seem to overpower the rear of the car...

If it were me doing that rear end, i'd place the indicators in the centre of the tail lights, keeping the lenses clear but using an orange bulb.
Id then hide the reverse light behind the mesh so that its invisible when turned off.
