Number or Quality of posts before you'll take someone seriously!

I'd go by quality of posts rather than quantity with members..good example is Alan (HS30H); not sure how many posts (should check before I make any comment!) he has made but with each post he types, comes with vast knowledge I wish I had! Then you get ones like a recent panels for sale example that you wish you could just reach through the screen and slap.

I dont take anything on a forum as the highest quaility information.

Unless i know the person who posted it i do my own research.

Its like when you read somthing is bolt on.

Bolt on to me means all it takes to fit is to bolt it on

Not cut the bracket, weld sothing, change somthing etc etc

Number of posts means nothing to me :)

Eleventy eleven is a good number, it comes after tenty ten, which is right after ninety nine.

How long is a piece of string?

Seriously though I think it may come down to personal insight and inspiration a post may deliver the reader, and quantity may play the lowest denominator in it all, what one person may believe is mundane, another may find a eureka moment in.

But the question also begs asking so I have to, what brought this on Scoota I'm intrigued also LOL

I assign each letter of the alphabet with a number and then add up the user's name to get a numerical answer, then rhyme this number with a movie title.  If I like the movie, I can trust the poster.

What brought this on Scoota?

Well i've been watching some recent activity and i was comparing post numbers of people who were disagreeing (which is fine to do online if you're into that sort of thing) but i just think that sometimes we take different points of view to enhance discussion and perhaps stimulate a more effective rationality instead of telling one to choke a big one or however you may phrase it which if you attack us as a one you may very well be attacking us as a whole.

As a group we are very similar but worlds apart, comments said for whatever reason to offend another online have a less than Zero credability, least we become another blog consumed by hatred from a small minded individual.

In short, i have noticed the difference since Rev has left for the states. But honestly i'm not fussed about how many posts but make a donation to the site and i think thats a good commitment. Whoops my bad.

What do you feel has changed? Do you think it's a bit more hostile around here? I don't doubt that Rev has a positive impact but I wonder what you feel has changed?

The Karma feature was designed to help member vouch for each other. Unfortunately the negative karma introduced a bit of trouble although in some instances I think it makes sense to give negative karma ;) Such as our Panels thread where people were told to "choke on a fat one".

As mentioned I think quality of posts is a good indication of how valuable a contributor is to the site and what I also think is good is when members write up a detailed introduction that is well thought out. I've seen quite a few of these introductions and I'm always pleased to see them and read them.

Case by case should be taken here.

Take it for what it is, the individual that sparked this is gone.

Don't forget there are people like Gordon Dobbie, who don't post much but have more credibility, experience and knowledge than most.

Thanks for sharing Scoot  ;)

I take everyone seriously.  ::)

Having said that, we created a rule at my work 7-8 years ago that we should avoid giving work to anyone whos name starts with the letter "B"...

no Brads, Brians, Bevans, Bobs, Bretts, Barneys, Bens, Blairs, Blakes etc ....I wont go into it  ;D

I think I should change my name to Bogan.

I'm just seeing it a lot recently, a really low level of tolerence from people in general. I always felt that Rev was pretty good at diffusing situations but it's only me i just don't like to see people put other people down.

For whatever reason.

Quality definitely counts for technical discussions. Quantity has its worth when there is a good laugh or friendly vibe bouncing around.

Don't be disheartened Scoot. As far as it goes with offensive posts or slagging someone/something, it only becomes offensive if it is replied to in the same vibe. Stop the ‘tit-for-tat’ and the offender can't reload his distasteful output. Silence can be very empowering.

To all - Keep up the good work. This forum keeps me smiling a lot more often than anything else going on at the moment.
