Thanks guys, I was at work last night watching every update as the crossing mark got further away from cairns and closer to townsville. Then they upgraded it to a 5 so far off the coast meaning its going to be a big 5 by now.  :(

Now its about halfway inbetween, if anything this side at Cardwell.

We're hearing stories like biggest in one hundred years and worst natural disaster etc.

Hearing that body bags have been delivered to evac shelters up and down the coast sends a shiver up my spine.

I'll keep you posted....................

Big thank you for your best wishes, its 600pm now wind is coming on stronger, still another 5 hours before it hits, around 11 pm, they are saying we can expect high cat 3 or low cat 4 winds here in townsville and around 1 metre of rain, 2 to3 metre storm surge. spent the morning boarding up the windows, only house in the street to do so. could not believe how many people are not taking it seriously, mostly new people from down south, comments like it is only cat3 wind, 170> 224 kph , cat4 225>279 kph, well I think they will be thinking different in the morning, power is flicking off and on so do not know how long we will have it for. Thank you all again for the kind wisher, Tim and I will keep you posted when we can.

Cheers Tony

I haven't heard how they're going up north, or even how the storm surge is affecting us but we are holding up fine so far. Massive wind. Not too much rain.

It sounds like there's fighter jets cruising around at roof top level and the whole house shakes and it howls as big gusts whip over the house.

We lost power early last night but I've got the genie going and watching the Telly to see the aftermath. Overall I don't think it was that bad. I lost a fence but it could have been much worse. I heard sheets of roofing flapping around then ripping off and flying down the street with sparks flying etc. They are no where to be seen this morning.

The river came right up but compared to the predictions we didn't even really get much rain.

Great to hear that you made it through mostly unscathed.

I was watching the channel 7 telecast this morning and i got the impression that they were almost disappointed that there wasn't more carnage.  I had to switch off the coverage it was that bad.

Ha yeah I agree Bruce. I reckon the media wanted more carnage and dare I say it human injuries.

But I am so glad no loss of life and that many people got through unscathed. Some people might even say it was an over reaction given the out come. But I reckon all the warnings were very early, detailed and infomative. So that must have contributed to the human out come. But yeah it must have been frightening to spend the night hunkered down listening to the wind, rain and debries flying around.

Keep smiling QLD'ers hopefully things will settle down up there soon.
