I noticed that with Lurch's new car, it has a short shift kit, and also that other manufacturers do make and offer these as an option. Has anybody got an OEM SS kit, and what are they like? What's been done to mine is that the leaver has been cut down & a new thread cut on it. This shortens the 'leverage' & makes the shifter 'feel' more direct. (FWIW, if it was a 71C spec box (R32 Skyline, Silvia, etc.), then you can buy a short shifter it for one of those). Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There was on for sale here in NZ on trademe a year ago the guy that purchased it was a local ZClub member here in Auckland. He had a 280zx B box in his 240z and he had to modify the little adaptor ears to work on the zx B box (see the pic in the link above for a shot of the adaptors) but he believed it should have worked on a 260z B box with not mods - but don't take my word on that. Would be super-quick and close if used with a short stick. Have been going to make one for my Z which has a short-stick but haven't got round to it. The spacer was made of 40mmx40mmx3mm box. I have an Arizona ZCar short shift kit fitted to my Zed and it works very well (some say too well if they are not accustomed to the very short throw) The "ears" move the pivot point up shortening the top throw and increasing the bottom throw, the supplied gear knob is weighted for better throw feel. Fitting takes 1/2 hour, installed from the top after removing the console, North/South shifts (ie first - second and third to firth) are very short with only half the throw of the standard shifter. No change to the East/West throws as the pivit is changed for N/S throws only. The Up side- shifts are very positive and the shifter feels like a rifle bolt (shorter action than in my MX5) The down side - if your synchros are worn/lazy then this will excacerbate any synchro crunch due to the increased speed of the engagement..........so I would suggest you not fit a short shifter unless you have refreshed all your synchros as the increased speed of the shift will certainly speed up any synchro wear. I have a knock-off C's type short shifter that has the bolt patterns for an RB20DET box that I'm trying to sell. I wanted this more than the NISMO shifter in the car, but it doesn't fit my gearbox.
