Yeah Gav, that's the one I got from you. It came up really well as the rust was only superficial and causing bubbling under the paint. Once stripped and blasted it was very sound still. It was a lot of work but a good investment I think.

Thanks Jeff

Spot on David!

For various reasons this is my preferred location and I didn't want to chop up my pristine original lids so a couple of hours got these made. 35mm hinges from Bunnings were spot on, just had to elongate the holes a fraction.

Got the lower door seals and the outer hatch seal fitted. Decided that removing the hatch was the right choice for this, you could do it with the hatch in place but would make it way harder than necessary.

Spent a few hours cleaning up my rear interior plastics and they came up pretty well. They were in good condition except the LH rear side which I had to buy from MSA. They haven't replicated the finish very well so it does stand out but once in the car you don't really notice.

Got a bit done the last few nights....

Refitted the drivers side door glass after having the scratches polished out http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16465-all-glass-polishing-melbourne/?do=findComment&comment=195629 highly recommend his work and much cheaper than new repro glass. Once the glass and frame was back on I could fit the two remaining door seals, fiddly little buggers and patience pays off.

Fitted the new hatch interior trim panel and grommets while the hatch was off.

Fortunately my washer bottle was in pretty good nick, just the lid was a bit yellowed. Gave it a good clean. Checked the motor still works and installed with new tubing and T piece. Tick another thing off.

I've been extremely fortunate that when the previous owner stripped the car he bagged and tagged everything and most things have been there but one thing that was missing was the spare wheel retainer. After hunting around http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16460-wanted-240260z-spare-wheel-retaining-bolt/#entry195781 I ended up making one using some M10 all thread which cost $7.00. The all thread passes through the original bracket (without drilling) and has a lock nut underneath and then I have a nut with a large washer underneath the Masonite cover that I made and a fabricated wing nut on top so I can tighten it down without the Masonite bowing. Too easy!

I had to buy some suitable tyres to put on Gordo's borrowed rims for the engineering inspection. Gordo's race tyres were BIG 225/60 x 15 for the 7 inch rims and really filled out the guards both in width and diameter. I need something that was a bit smaller so ended up with 205/60's which were satisfactory for the purpose. Don't worry Gordo, I've got your original tyres and will have then refitted before returning the rims!!!

Seatsafe seat-belts have arrived but cant fit them until the interior is done.

I'm away for work a bit in September so I've booked in to have the VASS inspection done on October 2nd.....I've got a deadline to work to now...but not much more to do ......scary!

Rather unproductive but necessary task completed today.

Sun-visors and interior mirror were removed by the PO and I had  never really looked closely at them until today.....they were dusty and dirty but I didn't count on the really disgusting residue left from the PO smoking. Took a good couple of hours to carefully and thoroughly clean them.

Chores around the house and MTB ride scuppered any more progress for the day.

Looking great Dave.

Sounds like we have very similar days yesterday.

I am very much enjoying your recent posts. The standard of your work is inspirational. It must be geat to have the end in sight.

Are you going to run a bike rack on the Z or just pull the bike apart and put it in the back? ;-). Best of both worlds.

Thanks gents.

Yes Jeff, just pull the bike apart....not a fan of racks for carbon bikes. I've got Thule 594 which hooks over the front wheel which works well for MTB and roadie and no risk of damage.

Yep, already did the foam things, 4.5mm neoprene foam from Clark Rubber.

Getting closer.

Some people have asked about the quality of the glass polishing I had done on my drivers door glass. I hadn't really looked at it critically but gave it a good clean and have to say its pretty damn good. I cant see any waviness or other defects. There was one scratch on the inside that was pretty deep that he didn't want to take out as that would make it wavy but the mass of lighter scratches on the outside was no issue.

Cleaned up and pained my tow hook. I was going to leave it off but decided that you never know when you may need it! Better safe than sorry.

I picked up some recovered and refurbished seats from Mossy a few years ago, pulled these out and gave them a dust off. They were a lot firmer than my old original seats so I will need to take the seat height spacers out for more headroom but otherwise they look grouse.

Away for work this coming week so no more progress.

"Grouse" such a great adjective from the 80's. Love it and yes they do look "Grouse"

Thanks gents, really appreciate the comments. Its kinda surreal as I've got the excitement and buzz that come from when a long term project is close to finishing.

I was away all last week for work in Japan. Now normally I don't have any free time or the opportunity to "take in the sights" so to speak when I'm travelling for work but circumstances meant that I had some time to spare so....

http://www.tcmit.org/english/this is not their main automotive museum but is great for appreciating their industrial (textiles) background, had plenty of automotive stuff.

and....

http://www.honda-museum.com/this was typical Honda...extremely well done with a good mix of their historic and technologically advanced race cars and bikes but also a good smattering of significant competitor machines.

On the way to Motegi for the Honda museum we pulled up at a set of lights in downtown Tokyo and this guy was in the lane next to us......definitely doing it next time!!! http://shinagawa.maricar.com/Note: Go cart on the road, no helmet and texting while driving......a real irony in super conservative Japan.

Back home and I received another order from the US: Datsun front guard badges, heater control decals and RH door glass roller. These were the only items that MSA couldn't supply so had to source then from ZCarDepot. Also spent ages cleaning gutter molds, door belt molds and wiper arms.

I did the Karting in Tokyo - an insane experience!! Whats stranger is for a city of roughly 20 million (incl satellite prefectures) - the roads are so un-congested! Sydney and the like should take note.

They also have affordable housing and their land prices have been going down... they seem to know how to plan in Japan, where as our lot wouldn't know what a plan looks like. :D

Not wanting to repeat the horror stories I've heard about carpets from others I've decided to take the car to a highly recommended trimmer to have some carpet custom made, also because I need to allow for my speaker locations. After two false starts between showers I managed to get the car there without getting rained on which wouldn't be advisable with no screens in place.

Took some shots in the few seconds the sun came out.

I'm not entirely sure thats correct - try saying cheap in Ginza!, Tokyo real estate is still quite expensive in comparison to their wages. It certainly hasn't even fully recovered from the 80's crash which so many people base our impending one on.

I fully agree with the rest though! Wish we had a govt with insight and foresight into the future like they do!
