So you like the 15 latest posts, but would prefer that it didn't update for each individual post, rather it showed the latest new threads?

No I like the 15 latest posts how it was. However underneath the 15 latests posts was a link something like "View all latest posts". When you clicked this link it showed each latest post, but instead of just the thread topic, it showed the whole post. Does that make sense? I like it with just the thread topic, so you click on the ones that you want.

Currently this is very difficult because you log-in via the forums and not the websites front end. So the list pulled is just the latest posts. I will have to check, but I imagine with the new system provided you are logged into Auszcar.com the latest 15 posts will only be the ones you have subscribed.

There is definitely a tracker module that allows you to see this kind of data under your profile, I'm sure I can get to expose the data on the homepage if required.

hey Gav (et al)

I have to say that i do like the current format, and wonder how the slideshow will go with a bit of network congestion - or an older pc ... lets face it - not all datto owners are tech heads  ;D

If i was to think about an addition i would like to see, i would have to say that i would love to see the technical knowledge contained in the various posts combined into a wiki resource. that way you wouldnt need to read through a whole stack of posts in different topics to get the little bit of knowledge that you need to get the job done. ???

Is it possible to have something like this - would others see merit in it?

just a thought

Mick

I don't mind seeing all the threads with new posts (even the ones I am not subscribed to) just not all the text. I don't want to see what people wrote until I click on the thread title. Does that make sense?

Definitely a good point. I think maybe the slide show will get moved to the member rides section which lists all the featured cars on the site. I can understand what you are saying about network congestion etc..

100% agree. The new CMS will have this feature. Users will also be able to vote and rate each article. So we could arrange topics by rating / vote count. Certain users could also have the rights to edit existing articles and correct errors.

The current system has been to sticky a topic, but that's not always useful. And often amendments are made throughout the thread. So you could have the original how to on the first post, but a correction fix appears on the 5th page of the thread.

Might not be possible straight away, until we migrate the entire site to the new content management sytem, but I imagine this will be possible.

Thats the point of the latest thread list instead of latest 15, you get a list of ALL of the latest threads (with new posts), so if there are more than 15 which does happen, you can see them all.  I use it on lots of forums and it means you can be up to date if you go away for a few days etc

That's fine, so put a link on the front page so it's easy to find.

or is it there now, and I'm blind?

Ok. Gav is porting over the site to a new CMS. That probably means that the current site as it stands is not likely to have an update ( from a functionality point of view ) as it would defeat the purpose of going to drupal. Database migration isnt a case of copy and paste and we are good to go.

So what we actually have here is a case of internet-must-be-done-now-or-I-riot-mofo-itis.

I say cheers, beers and buxom wenches for Gav.

It's all a bit beyond me, all this 'drupal' stuff...what I have noticed however is the evidence of peoples appreciation for the AusZcar site.  It's often not until we lose something that we are used too that we realise it's value.  Thanks Gav and Mods for all you do and I hope peoples appreciation of the forum extends to their pockets to keep it going strong.
Rev.
