(Locky) Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 hey trying to find some front wheels for my 240, but not sure if the ones im after will clear the strut/brakes ect so was looking into a bolt on spacer most of them from memory are hubcentric for a s13 in a 4x114.3 , but the "hub ring" (forget what its called) is bigger on a 240 right. i remember reading some where that someone was using s13 rotors but had to get them bored out to fit so does anyone here run spacers ? if so were they off the shelf or custom Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

V8Datto Posted July 15, 2009 Share Posted July 15, 2009 I had trouble with track width and cop years ago, Rules back then were from standard you could go 25mm total extra track width on the front and 50mm on the back, :note: If your car came out with a different model (same chassis) with wider rims then you could use that model of car as "the standard" and add to it. That ment each front rim could move out 12.5mm and the rears 25mm too. But things change and I'm not sure if the guy a Vicroads was correct in what he told me back then either. I looked into spacers and found they were legal, but there were strict guide lines I'm assuming racing car's use them so they can't be too bad What were the standard rims on the 432Z? RBZ 260 Posted July 30, 2009 Share Posted July 30, 2009 i got a set for mine but mine is 5x 114.3. legalities in SA as long as they not loose and have the hub fitting snuggly. but still a mixed info. i got a set from ebay seller performance guru from NZ. very good seller and the spacers were top notch. postage was like 3days. even showed them to few mag wheel places and they wanted the guys details as they were lot better quality and finish. didnt give them though hehe he does have other offset sizes and stud patterns so pays to contact him if not listed. You sure about that Johnny? The regulations I have clearly state that hub spacers are strictly forbidden, unless originally fitted by the manufacturer... My mate was just was told from an Insurance company that if wheel spacers are fitted they will not PAY OUT. If you are in an accident, Your fault or not..unless originally fitted by the manufacturer. hunterzed Posted November 1, 2009 Share Posted November 1, 2009 This would be about the same effect as spacers. The other thing with this is that you will need an engineers certificate. When I was racing I wanted to run bead locks. (On a 4wd) and you can't put a continuous weld around the entire circumferance of the rim as this will creat a weak point for the rim to crack. The rules don't specify whether you weld on the outer or inner part of the rim. To be honest, your best bet would be to upgrade to 5 stud struts. Much easier to get engineered and will give you way more options for rims. You'll also have way more brake choices as well and not to mention coil over options. If you have an accident with spacers or modified rims you will NOT be covered by insurance. Unless you can keep it real quiet. Might not seam like much to think about but insurance comapanies will look for any way out of paying that they can find. You might beat them but it'll cost heaps in litegation. Just my 2 cents. That's what I do.. Being cheap the 1st time always cost you more in the long run. Been there done that...Now I buy the best 1st time around. NRMA won't insure your car if it doesn't meet RTA specification (i.e if RTA won't pass your car for rego). So I called the RTA and they said wheel spacers were illegal. hunterzed Posted November 4, 2009 Share Posted November 4, 2009 If you have an accident and the accident investigation guys or the insurance company prove that you have illegal modification that have contributed to the accident (and this is easier to prove than disprove) then you can be held criminally liable for the consequences of the accident which could include Manslaughter or even murder if you had previous knowledge that the modifications were illegal and did not rectify the problem. If you want to risk this then it is entirely up to you. You have to weigh up if the possiblity of going to jail against the look of your car. BenZed Posted November 5, 2009 Share Posted November 5, 2009 I once had spacers engineer-approved in NSW, not sure if you can do that now. There are some dodgy spacers out there, but if they're made from the appropriate grade of alloy (preferably forged 6160) and have high tensile studs properly fitted, then they are not dangerous. I've had a set on the back of my drift car for years. Admittedly it isn't registered, but there have no problems with these. I have also seen hundreds of them on modified cars in Japan and nobody ever mentioned a problem with them. Unfortunately this is one more modification that has picked up a bad rep due to a few dodgy examples.
