The LightMaster Experience - REBOOTED.

Recommended Posts

I'm posting up a few pics of the work I'm currently doing to Bruce's 240Z.

I've been hassling him for the last few month to let me at it - I didn't want to see it deterorate any further...

Bruce dropped it off mid last week & I've been doing a few hrs a day on it.

The current working list is as follows:

New P/S floor pan (rare sapres item).

New P/S chassis rail.

Re-fabricate the inner guard under the battery tray... (eeek!).

New Ferodo GT2 brake pads (the current Bendex's squeel like a 12yo, when cold...).

New waterpump.

New headgasket & reco the cyclinder head - I'll clean up the ports while I'm at it.

BTW, Bruce politly imformed me the other night that his username is actually 'SPA-master240' as he sells outdoor/portable Spa's for a living. NOT SPAM-aster240...

Seams are sealed & I've just finished undercoating.

I'll be spraying the underside with 'deadner'. Bruce can then paint topcoat on the inside footwell himself.

New WP has been fitted, as have the new brake pads.

Oh, & I get the reco'd head back tomorrow...

Not much to go now!

I couldn't find my cam chain wedges at the time, so a bit of old architrave came in handy...

Murphys Law I found them after I'd finished the job >:(

Anyway, Bruce picked the car up on Saturday - I think he was happy with the result...

Here are a few more pics:

Replacement VL RB30 starter motor - half the weight of the orig. unit(!), bolts straight in with no mods & turns the motor over much more efficiently.

And a couple of pics of the head.

two things worth noting on the Rb30 starter.

1. the solenoid will sit out further than the origional.

Instead of sitting straight above the starter body, its along side it.

keep that in mind with your wiring.

I didn't have an issue, just had to move the thick wires a bit to 'lengthen' them.

2. they are a reduction starter, they use a planetary gear setup internally.

some of the components are plastic, and after time can shatter.

you'll know it if it does, you'll hear the starter running but the engine wont turn over.

looking good!

Good tip on the RB starter - I have a RD28 starter as this is more of gear reduction starter and is perfect for a high Compression motor ;) There is a LD28 starter that is almost the same also (Have one of them too). It is funny how much the RB and L6 have in common.

Excellent work on their Lurch - next time I am in Melbourne on business (last time was Oct last year) I will have to make a bigger effort to met more of you guys - I have gav240z before this site was even up if I recall.
