Seller's Comment

Datsun 260Z 1976 2 seater with Chev 350 reconditioned engine and Chev Camaro 5 speed manual gearbox. Car is in is in original condition inside and out. Body is rust free and straight. Total weight increase is only about 70kG and because engine is set back against the firewall the centre of gravity of the car is now further back and lower than the standard Datsun. This results in a more stable and better handling car. The standard Datsun solid front discs have been replaced with vented discs (see photo), with late model vacuum booster which gives excellent braking. The engine was rebuilt several years ago (see photos) but the car has been in storage since 2003. The engine has been bored .030” but is otherwise standard with 76cc heads and 4 bolt main bearings. It has had only a few hours running since the rebuild and is not yet run in. The horsepower and torque figures speak for themselves to indicate the performance of the car, when compared to the standard Datsun specs. Carburettor is Quadrajet mounted on Edelbrock manifold. Extractors are custom built to suit. I need the space in my garage and it is time to find a new home for the car. Price is offered as is, which is currently unregistered, but it has an engineers certificate and could be purchased at additional cost with 12 months registration and roadworthy, as an option.

Whilst they may not be everybodies cup of tea I do like the idea of a V8 in a Z.

Interesting reading the ad, the seller states "Car is original inside and out" ?

$21K for rust free V8 is probably good value for those into V8's

Regretfully selling my 72 Datsun 240z, I had been storing the car waiting for time/opportunity to work on it but I now have to sell it. The car has the original matching numbers L24 with the E31 head and close ratio manual box.

Car is still registered.

It has spent much of the last few years in the garage, engine is running but car is currently not driving. Brakes and clutch need bleeding (new master cylinders for both) and needs a tune. Some rust on drivers dogleg/door skin but that can be fixed, no sunroof. A little bit of work would see this car driving around, rego just paid.

Will not respond to emails, call me or text if you're interested. Asking price is 14,000 ono

It looks like a decent project, front of bonnet has a bow in it, looks like it was nudged at some stage. But otherwise looks complete and a good start for someone. E31 head was not standard in 1972, should be an E88 by that stage.

I've often wondered what happened to my first 240z I did up when I was 17. Whether it had survived since I sold it around 1994 for around $4500.

The bare metal porsche guards red paint job I did seems to have held up fairly well.

Unfortunately as a 17 year old I though it was ok to bog up areas of the car, like the dog legs, and the front left guard. Reconstructing the front of the bonnet bulge in bog was sculptural work of art.

The car had a tow bar fitted (i removed it), which hasn't been kind to the chassis. I'd never seen a cracked transmission tunnel like that. It was plated over and welded, and sections of the floor welded to remove the rust, and passed inspection to get licensed. Apart from the dog legs and a few sections of the floor the car was relatively rust free in 1987.

This was the car I bought from a wrecker that was stolen in NSW and driven to WA.

Edit: added a photo to show what it looked like when I got it (I'd started taking it apart and stripping paint, but the green and brown was what it looked like when I bought it)

That's awesome that you can see where it ended up, note the 240K sedan as the tow vehicle?

Weird that it says still registered yet, shows the NSW plates? Perhaps seller put those on for photos only? I hate the bright yellow plates in NSW.

This is another good reason to have a decent registry with history on these cars. Don't suppose you know what the chassis number was?

Hello,

Up for sale, is my matching numbers 1973 240z

This is a 3 owner vehicle (me being the 3rd). It is one of those vehicles where the 2nd owner, purchased the vehicle off a friends mum (when she was in her 60's) and has stored & and drove her ever since.

The original log book (stamped), delivery papers, service & owners manual will come with the vehicle.

She is yellow (lime green), for the most part original with the exception of a professional manual conversion, R180 LSD (drives exceptionally well on the highway). It has the original L24 motor running twin su's with new extractors and 2" exhaust (deep note).

She has a handful of small surface rust spots (the largest being no bigger then a 5c piece). Otherwise the paint and body present well. The floor plans are in great condition including the wheel well.

All electrics are working, with the exception of the clock .... as per the mechanical, she drives well and hence a recent trip from Vic to Syd.

Oh and the AM radio still works ;)

Bad bits?

* Headlights are out of action but i have a HID kit ready to go in. These are brand new.

* Not registered, but she is in roadworthy condition bar the above.

* The door sills are in primer due to some surface rust being treated.

I have a number of spares, NOS parts, brand new king springs, HID conversion.

That is all i can think of at the moment, she is an honest a car and in great condition for a 42yo vehicle.

More pics in the days to come. Located Sydney NSW.

No swaps as i have another upcoming project and change in living circumstances.

Thanks for viewing.

The 240k tow vehicle belongs to a mate, definitely turned heads on the way home. The red one was mine, was going to post an ad on here but I was in a rush, and surprised it went so quickly - off to South Australia. The WA market us dead as a door nail.

Do you know the red car's chassis number and engine number by any chance? It would be good to put it into the register and I'm sure Craig would like to know :).

Yeah it was HS30-10745 with engine number L24084614, sounds like it's headed to a good home in SA

Awesome. Thanks for that Andrew.  I regretted throwing out all my old documentation on that car after I sold it.

What year did you buy it? I sold it in the early 1990s probably some time between 1991 and 1994 to a young doctor that lived near Fremantle.

Sorry but the interior looked mint and the exterior colour were the same and I thought you put some panasports on your car? Anyway I actually thought it was a scam and they were using your photos but after comparing it I realised they are different cars. Just incredibly similar.
