My plastic interior trim panels in the rear of the car are black on the front side but red on the back side. Does this mean the interior was red and the panels have been painted?

Hi

My black trims are black on both sides.
Normally I would say that them being red on the inner side would suggest that they have painted, but not sure I have ever seen a Z with a red interior.
What year is your Z

Does the black scratch off ?

Cheers

PB

There was a very limited amount of white 240z's with red interior imported here.

I know of 2x 904 white with red interior cars...it seems to have been a very late 1973 thing.. cool interior colour!

There is a couple of 901 Silver cars with red interior.. sadly I think my 72 had a black interior (how boring).. :P

I’ll try the scratch test PB, thanks.

My compliance was late 73, not sure of the build date. Also white originally too. I don’t mind the red either.

What # is your car again? I'm sure I've recorded it, but it might be close in chassis no. to the other red interior cars I know about.

103771, 11/73 compliance, was originally white not sure of code and an auto.

I’ll try the scratch test later tonight.

Another white / red combo car here.

Which was apparently a sister car to this 1.

Not sure if vinyl paint comes off that easy...but if the rear is red it was definitely red to start with. My 72 has black panels and both sides are black.

Here is an excerpt from my spreadsheet of HS30's. I've since updated you were an auto from factory (I only fill these details in when I can confirm it).

I don't have your original L24 number :P

However you can see the other red interior car isn't far off your car and your sister cars were auto too!

Red (like Blue) is a rare combo interior. I have 6 cars recorded total.

HS30-103694 - https://photos.app.g...OOSjp20aNESiSD2

HS30-100036 - https://photos.app.g...aEqWiZdWI1Uxah1(sold up in Cairns not long ago).

I think Cracker's car was from Canberra and originally a red interior (901 Silver car). I don't know if I have it in my records though (apparently not!).

Not sure if he sold it? HS30 102904?

So it's rare, but not as rare as blue :P

The blue is a bit to Ziggy Stardust for me, but still nice cause most cars seem to be black on black.

Scratch test not required, all 1/4 window plastic, rear 1/4 plastic, tail light plastic are red. Too hard to see the vinyl on struts and trans tunnel. Theres a few splits in it but seems black to me.

L24 engine is in storage, will have to get the number at a later date.

I suspect we got a lot more of the red / blue / tan / white interior cars but many were changed over the years by owners who didn't like the retro vibe.

Bit of a shame really, would be good to know how many we got exactly.

Still haven't seen a Blue/Blue combo car, but hold out hope that someday such a car will reveal itself. But it maybe have been a North American colour combo only.

Mine was 306 silver (not 901) :)

And yes, originally a Canberra car.

I didn't think 240z's came in 306 Silver, only 901. I thought 306 was a later 260z shade? Does your engine bay have the paint code sticker still?

White. Black pinstripe on bonnet and sides.

Seems similar to my car HS30 01415.

Ok , I'm really getting curious about the red on the back. My black just looks so pristine, I'm tempted to scratch away.
Need more evidence from others. I have seen a few 901 silvers and the port red over the years, hmmm.
So who bought Crackers Ex Lennock zed ? Stunning car.

Yes, it retained the original sticker. I never had it side by side with a 901 car but it was incredibly similar to 901. I surmise that they were the same colour but 306 was used if it was paired with red interior, and 901 used when paired with black. Pure speculation and without weight, mind you.

Chris - I sold it to a gentleman in Queensland who was going to restore it. I've never heard from him since - not even to confirm the car arrived. I suppose it did... haha!
