aegean
If anyone has removed these from their car, can they tell me if the centre section (behind the Z) is an open section, or is solid ? If open, shouldn't the body colour show through, or was this painted behind it ? It doesn't look like the body colour behind it to me, but it could also be years of grime. Secondly, does anyone know if the Nissan Matic badge is available new from anywhere ?

If you were to take these badges off you would find an open section - from memory it is a vent from inside.
Scoota G
There is a guy on Ebay called Saad who seems to sell a bunch of Datsun badges. Have a look under 260Z International Sellers.
620Z
Yeah they were painted black behind the badge. Was a vent to inside the car. I think they were installed to vent the car when closing the door to stop the pressure. Mind you I don't think the old Zed was to air tight. Ha. Just telling you what I heard. By the way for those wondering if the exhaust fumes get sucked into the cabin via these. Negative. Mine were sealed up and the fumes still relate to the rear hatch. Mr Camouflage
Yeah they are a vent for the fresh air system. There were diagrams in the sales literature of the air coming in the fresh air vents in the dash and exiting out the side air vents. For the air to come in, there has to be somewhere for it to exit. All cars these day have them. They are usually hidden under a bumper.
