KatoKid
Mine is shagged so looking for a good replacement. Car is an earlyish 1970 build but not a series 1. Don't know if there are differences between later 240 and 260's? Thanks David

gilltech
Don't know if there are differences between later 240 and 260's? Don't go buying a 260Z winder mechanism without checking that it matches your 240Z one first. The early style 260 2-seat is certainly different in the bolt spacing and crank position. Later style 260 2-seat or 2+2 might work although the spring (relocated to reverse side) and configuration differs, I believe some modification is required. Best option IMO is to repair what you've got - after 40+ yrs most used winders are worn out or close to it. Usually the rack teeth are worn down but they can be built up with weld or braze and filed back to shape. And new rollers attached. GongZ
If you can't find one locally, a US 'passenger side' (=RHS) mechanism should have less wear. This one would is a bit pricey, but it looks good; http://www.ebay.com/itm/datsun-240z-right-passenger-side-door-window-regulator-mechanism-/201924371859?hash=item2f03a16593:g:sA8AAOSwlMFZGWas&vxp=mtr US$150 + US$55.61 shipping

The teeth on mine are fine its the spring mechanism that acts as a brake inside the winder housing that is broken. I've mucked around trying to fix it but its never going to be good. I reckon the same spring/winder mechanism off the 260Z will be the same looking at pics. Has anyone got a good RH 260 regulator they want to part with? gilltech
Hmm - best to compare springs too - different crank layouts across the cars could possibly mean different springs to provide the specified amount of leverage, and the 240Z spring is mounted on the opposite side compared to the 260Z. But hopefully will work and all will be well.

My problem is with the little spring that is wound around the drum of the winder that acts as a friction brake to help control the assist spring
gilltech
Understood, I meant the whole set-up is balanced and I don't know if late 260 bits will be near enough to just interchange or not, hopefully yes.
