I didn't get to see lap times, I got there Sunday relatively late. I did see your old 280z though, but didn't realise it was your old car at first. I only got 1 photo.

The penny dropped when I saw it goes past and the 280z fender badge was on it.

With regard to keeping it simple, totally agree. Is it running fuel injection?

Yes, fuelinjection, asperUSA spec 280Z.

James Flett in his 260 was certainly showing just how a simple well preparedcar, can go!

James' car with the twin SU set up is interesting indeed! I almost wish he was running the flat top SU's on it. Now that would stir a few people.

There is nothing odd about the Unique 300ZX Jason, seeing that you want to get personal you seem to think that anything that you didn't do is odd. Honestly a Z32 would not be my first choice but it is a Z and the amount of development that has gone into it is way more than you ever did or could do with anything and deserves to be recognised.

Unfortunately in this country the only racing class where a S30 can be sort of competitive is Historics but we all know in advance that a S30 is going to be beaten by the best Porsches so good luck with that. In the US modified Zeds are able to compete on a level playing field with all sorts of cars, as you don't seem to realise racing has moved on as has the performance of production cars on a race track.

As far as the Nats go that was a great performance by James Flett on his home track but obviously the S30 competition was weak for a number of reasons eg  Jon Siddins wasn't there. It's just a pity that the real performance potential of the S30 is so restricted for racing in this country, who knows what good drivers like James could do if that wasn't so.

There were only a couple S30's in the low 50's but quite a lot in the mid 50's. Overall quite a good result in my opinion.
I guess it's not a huge surprise but about 90% of the S30's entered for the track event were from NSW. I was hoping to see some more interstaters at the NATIONALS.

Not living in Brisbane puts me out of the Z car loop but one thing that is very important when running nationals is to be in close and constant contact early on with the other ND clubs, there are so many distractions these days that like everything else they need to be promoted, a web site by itself is not enough. I needed a fair bit of notice to attend to things on the 280ZX rather than work on the Z31 project.

Like the simple 300ZX doing a 1:39 lap compared with Mr Flett's best of 1:48 lol. Nothing wrong with a 1:48 of course, just shows what a dedicated race car, with an experienced driver familiar with the circuit can do compared with relative amateurs no matter what car they drive.

Still I bet that they all had fun and enjoyed the racing with other ND's which at Nationals is the main thing.

LOL at your definition of 'simple'   http://www.uniqueaut...ot car(002).pdf

:D Yeh I know that the specs of the Unique 300ZX are not 'simple', I started a thread on it being for sale here. So look at it's price compared with a race S30, bang for buck is important to us less monied enthusiasts. While the rapidly increasing S30 prices are good for some they are not so good for others, racing a car and being concerned about the availability of a replacement body should you prang is not conducive to the best race experience. Reality check blokes.

Whatever floats your boat.

I was merely pointing out that you were comparing apples and oranges.

Yes, life is a juggle particularly around the Easter long weekend (family time as my wife has so well stated over the last week!!)
But, I just thought I'd check what info was at hand for the NDN15 and it seems the 1st post publishing the event ON THIS SITE gave the same amount of notice as NDN17, posted in Feb.

http://www.viczcar.c...nd/#entry155430

I assume to organise an event like this, it is very hard to get the various venues to confirm dates and publish the info to the masses with a lot more notice than this.

That is indeed the difficulty. Tracks are getting harder and harder to book in NSW due to simple supply and demand. As an example, I'm also in the NSW MX5 club and they had an interstate track day at Winton for the first time last year for just that reason, couldn't get enough days booked in NSW to meet the club's requirements.

Not really, both are highly developed dedicated race cars and if JF is not a pro then he is a very experienced driver with the big advantage of his home track. The Unique 300ZX's time was put up to give some perspective to James' time and to stir Jason.

For the Q nationals Morgan Park was booked more than a year ahead, for these nationals I did wonder what the track event was actually going to be and where, it took quite a while for solid info to appear by which time I was committed otherwise.

Google John Boston (who was driving the 300ZX) and see who would have had the advantage with regards to experience and  home track........

For someone who doesn't do any racing, let alone sprints, at any interstate venues, you try to come aross as very "knowledgeable"
Fortunately, quite a few of us see through this charade, and have done so for many years
James, inlast fewyears, only races twice a year.
John Boston, on the other hand, about every weekend.
Butagain, you donthave any knowledge of this, yet you sprout forth, again,,,
Compare the owner of that 300ZX's times, that might help you to understand things a lot more.

JF's car is a roadregistered built to strict regs standard car, and not a "dedicated race car", but, you do not know any of this.
Note further down thetimesheets, my old , also standard, as built to regulations car, was just a few slots behind JF, with a 1.50, also running same brake setup, and breathingthrough a single factory butterfly.

How do we put Richards "interesting" viewpoints, into a new topic?
Moreso, what do you call it?

Without getting too caught up in all the BS.
It really was a great event. A big THANKS goes out to all the organisers who made it happen and all the people who came along who made it great.
It was nice to put some more faces to forum avatars. And the weather, it was perfect for a change.
I'm looking forward to the next NDN, I hope to be there!!

Hard to believe that these two are best of friends when face to face . I think BS is just for us to keep us entertained . Both are ex-Presidents of the ZCCQ and both have organised NDN events and know what is involved.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the 50th birthday of the Z comes around in a little over 2 years and as any one who has organised one of these events knows things need to start happening about 18 months out from the day. I have heard of one proposal and if possible it will be an event not to miss as the 50th celebration will only come once. :o

A big THANKS goes out to all the organisers who made it happen.

I think it happened in spite of our efforts rather than because of them !

I would like to add my thanks to the entrants who supported the event, and to all the volunteers who gave their time to help out. As well as members of the Sydney Datsun Club and their families, we had volunteers from other clubs who gladly gave their time and travelled long distances to help out. Much appreciated.
