Doesn't look like there's a lot of cars?

Around 200 entered for the event overall, today was registration day and observation rally so people coming and going all day rather than staying in one place.

Someone else will have to give a full report, I spent most of the weekend collecting entry forms, selling raffle tickets, answering questions and running the motorkhana. Such is the life of an event organiser. Did manage to put a face to some forum people, which is always nice.

The whole event seemed to be pretty well received from feedback we got. Obviously, there are always things that could be done better in hindsight.

One observation I have comes from my wife. Despite being dragged out of bed yesterday at 4am in time to get down to Sydney and set up the motorkhana course, then sitting out on the skidpan all day directing competitors and doing timing, and finally getting back home at 10pm, she enjoyed the experience. She was very pleased with the friendliness of just about everybody, even when she was telling them they had the wrong wristband, in the wrong line, etc. Datsun people are generally nice guys !

And one proud father moment - my daughter Chloe took out 1st placed junior in the motorkhana, despite spending most of the event also officiating as timekeeper and not getting many runs in. She mostly drove the Sydney Datsun Club owned 1600 (available for all members of the SDC to borrow and drive in Motorsport events, what a great club !!!!)  having never driven it before, and another entrant was then kind enough to offer her a drive in his 300ZX, as well as take her for some passenger laps. Very generous and most appreciated. I guess Nissan people aren't too bad either.

Good on you and your family Dave, sounds like a great day for all.

The all Nissan Datsun thing is working, it was a while ago that the Z Car Club Q while wanting to remain Z centric realised that to have a viable Nationals you had to have the numbers and the way to do that was not to stay with Z's only. I think that having a mix makes it more interesting for everyone too.

Nothing wrong with having an event for a more specific range of cars, so long as the expectation of what the event will comprise is realistic. Fairlady's for instance have their own nationals.

Getting enough of a particular model or small group of models to cover the huge cost of hiring Eastern Creek GP circuit for example means it would be an unacceptable risk for anybody to contemplate.

I almost feel like it should be a yearly event? I think next time I'll try and get much more involved in the planning stage of it and help promote it. Turnout was good, but I reckon with a bit more effort and a bit more promotion on the S30Z side we could get even better numbers there.

Gav, did you notice the quickest S30 on the lapdash was a Group S Prod Sports car!
No big bore stroker, no big triple carbs, stock std brakes, full interior, flash paintjob, and well driven!
Theres a lot to besaid for keeping them simple!

I didn't get to see lap times, I got there Sunday relatively late. I did see your old 280z though, but didn't realise it was your old car at first. I only got 1 photo.

The penny dropped when I saw it goes past and the 280z fender badge was on it.

With regard to keeping it simple, totally agree. Is it running fuel injection?

Like the simple 300ZX doing a 1:39 lap compared with Mr Flett's best of 1:48 lol. Nothing wrong with a 1:48 of course, just shows what a dedicated race car, with an experienced driver familiar with the circuit can do compared with relative amateurs no matter what car they drive.

Still I bet that they all had fun and enjoyed the racing with other ND's which at Nationals is the main thing.

The  sports sedan 300ZX that has been highly developed over many many years, and was driven by a professional driver  ? And still only 9 seconds faster than an amateur in a production sports car, running stock brakes, tiny tyres and SU carbs ?

:D Yeh I know that the specs of the Unique 300ZX are not 'simple', I started a thread on it being for sale here. So look at it's price compared with a race S30, bang for buck is important to us less monied enthusiasts. While the rapidly increasing S30 prices are good for some they are not so good for others, racing a car and being concerned about the availability of a replacement body should you prang is not conducive to the best race experience. Reality check blokes.

Richard,
Really, your inane love for oddities leaves all others wonderingabout you!
The 300 is a very very much modified Sports Sedan, but does not have a logbook for its currentspec, and can only verrun in basic lapdash type events, just like your cars.
