Thank you for the interest in my book "Racing For Fun". I am genuinely surprised at the enthusiasm shown. As you know the idea of writing a book came from this forum.

I have received quite bit of feedback. The era covered in the book has been little written about from the participants perspective and I think this must be the reason for it's popularity.

Due to the cost of publication there was a limit to the number I could have printed but there are still some remaining and if the demand warrants it I may order a reprint.

Thanks once again

The book would be an interesting read I also remember a Datsun 2000 sports being raced by a guy called peter beaseley( I think? )  it was dark green back in the day, can't remember whether he was successful racer or not, he was as I remember a keen mg man also.

Peter lives 15mins down the road from me - I seem him at car club events regularly enough.
I don't remember him ever running a Sports 2000 (I stand to be corrected), but he sill has his original Sprite/Midget that he raced in Grp D.
He also built quite a few Minda clubmans as well...

Ask Peter about the Mingay/Carter Datsun 2000, and the Porter Brothers car.
Peter punted his 2000 pretty hard!

My copy was waiting in the mailbox when I got home this evening, I'm already well into it  :)

It reminds me very much of all the stories my uncle (who raced motorbikes from the 50's through to the late 60's) used to tell - stories of oxy welding up the lands on a busted piston, filing it to shape and getting underway again, of sleeping on the sideboard of the tow car to save on motel costs, and dicing with top Australian and international riders. I wish he had recorded some of his tales in writing.

Anyway, back to reading !

Thanks Gordon, I'm looking forward to it.

I sent a request to order this book two weeks ago, but no reply to my e-mail.

Perhaps not wiling to deal with international postage?

That's very kind and much appreciated, but I can't do anything if nobody is willing to answer my e-mails.

Hi Alan
Sorry about that. I don't know what happened there, I have no record of your email. The cost of the book is $30. I will check the cost of postage.
Please contact me again by email: datcar54@hotmail.com and I will let you know the total cost.
I will be in the UK in late July and August in Kent, Norfolk and Cheshire. I could take some books with me and save you the postage cost if that suits.
Best regards
Gordon Dobie

Peter punted his 2000 pretty hard!

The sydney cars ran under a different set of rules. They didn't comply with group D due to having oversize engines. They also had wider wheels and guard flairs than allowed under the group D rules. Never the less when I took our car to Warwick Farm in the late 60s Doug was able to beat them in our group D car.

Hi Alan
The email address you quoted is incorrect.
My email address is : datcar54@hotmail.com

Sorry about the confusion all I can do is claim innocence. Some websites will not allow email addresses, websites etc to be posted and I suspect you have been given incorrect information for that reason.
