These have got me stumped. Just behind the ashtray, in the console itself.

Am I missing something? Or did someone get a bit drill-happy?

Looks like someone got a bit excited with the drill.

Dammit. You think they could've stopped at one.

Maybe just throw a couple of black switches or rubber grommets in the holes for now ?

Yep, grommets should sort it.

I've seen a number of styles of cup holder (again, U.S. cars) that fit around that area. A couple of them required drilling holes.

I just take the ashtray out to get my cupholder.

I'm not sure I like your cavalier attitude toward beverage consumption, sir. What about your passenger? What about the second super sized coke you just bought for yourself? It's a serious concern for our American friends. An American colleague of mine once informed me, he was unable to ride a motorcycle due to the lack of a cup holder!

In fact, I'm surprised they ever managed to sell a Z in the states, considering the lack of cup holders.

Due to "popular request from many of our customers" the Z store make a "Deeper Drinker cup holder" for the Z. http://www.thezstore...ic08e06/50-2585

Not sure if this helps. My 77 2+2 has a hole in the ashtray for a light lense. If you had one of these you would have a hole in the ashtray and two rivet holes, like shown in the photo I have just added.

The earlier ashtray holder frame in the post above is from an earlier 2+2 and does not have the ashtray light. So the holes in the ashtray are not related to light.

I agree with the cup holder theory.

That shit cracked me up.

Then I looked at the link and it was true!

Now my belly hurts from laughing.

I need an extra tall drink!
