hello, it was running this morning badly, then i looked at the points and they seemed fine for gap. I then put the dizzy cap back on and no start. not even close. I then tried the electric dizzy converion and still no spark from any plugs. I have tried all different coils. Really annoying as i was supposed to register it today had to cancel that and looks as though i will cancel tomorrows appointment aswell. I have been very dissapointed with this car as i have spent hours and hours on it and it still sitting in my driveway going knowhere. bloody thing....... im just about over it

do an engine conversion and most hassles go away. LOL.. sorry not much of a help. i preffer cranck angle sensors and ignition modules. lot more stable.

other than that if u havent got a service manual it would be good. just follow the instructions there. got me out of trouble few times.

i havent played around with my l28 for long time. so bit rusty but i never had any ignition troubles.

Glen, grab a test light from somewhere or someone, put it on the + terminal from the coil while the ignition is on and check for power. Then put it on the - and crank and see if the light switches on and off while the engine is cranking. If no power at the + then run a cable from the batt + and go directly to the coil + and then crank the engine. If still no spark, take the cap off and crank the engine again and see if the rotor is actually rotating. I think I might have to go there and give you a hand..its getting beyond the joke!

hi, i put myself to bed (nightshift this week) to get a few hours kip and try and sort this problem so i can just register the car. I have a multimeter aswell but will make a test light. I remember you saying if the + and - is back to front the module will fry on the elec dizzy. Sadly as i had been up 22 hours i didnt trust myself anymore so i stopped work. now after after a rest im in better shape to try lol. If you want to save me Demitri id be forever greatful and will pay you whatever you want. This car is making me very sad at the moment. Its a love hate relationship

now im having so much fun i decided to at least try and get it going on points again. Why is this so stupidly hard??? Can the ignition module shit itself and cause no spark. All my great luck thrown into one day.

put a voltmetre on the coil, it shows 8 volt while cranking, then when i hold the end of the coil plug to the head or block no spark. I then just grabed the end of the lead while it was cranking and i didnt get a pulse. This has happened with 4 different coils.

sorry to harass you guys but as i said before im trying to get my car going for tomorrow so i can register it so i have a little emergency here so any help at all would be what....helpful? Is there something else i need to check or replace if my coils are throwing no spark? i have tried many coils, i have used electronic and point dizzys but theres no spark? i have wired the coil direct to the battery but still no spark. Could someone help a person out thats running on 2 hours sleep over the last 26 hours please???

One more thing that may help is just to make sure you have a fully charged battery in the car. If you have been trying to start for a while it may be flat. If the volts on the battery go below 10.0V while you are cranking the engine, it will never start! Best thing I can do is come tomorrow afternoon, it may be too late for the reg, but we can do our best to get it started! Give me a call tomorrow if its ok with you....

mate Im no sparky , but here goes..

Its doesnt sound like the coil.

your saying when cranking your not getting spark-current at the end of the leads... could your dizzy cap be slightly out ? is the rotor skimming the cap properly ?

start from the plugs and work backwards ,with your voltmeter looking for correct amperage.

have you checked starter & alternator wiring ? dodgy lead perhaps ?

It sounds like youve had the dizzy in & out on a few occasions,so problem may also lie with that area moreso... over retarded perhaps ?

that would be good just to get it sorted, i have it half running again. Good enough just to cruise up to get it reged, then demitri i can come to you if thats ok. i will bring the electric dizzy and get rid of the old dizzy all together its giving me nothing but grief. sorry if i seem a bit stressed this is not normally me.

thanks

i ended up going over the dizzy again and again and also all the coil conections. Some how i got spark back through the coil lead so then i had something to work with.

Whats the best way to time it without a gun. Just crack the bolt and move it slightly and see how it revs?

Anyway i need rest and thanks again

speak to you tomorrow dimitri

Yeah, Not a problem. Glad you got it all registered without paying for another lost appointment! This Sunday I'll be at the Island for that Philip Island Classic. The NDSOC have a club display there so I'm taking the Zed up for a drive (plus who could refuse a free ticket for the event and infield parking!!) We should be able to get purring like a kitten....
