Thanks Alan, makes sense, I just couldn't find anything to confirm if it was indeed a Z-L designation or not. For some reason I didn't include the link, and now I can't find the auction again. Has it been purchased already perhaps?

I could only find this car, which doesn't have the headlight covers and appears to have a bent nose.

It appears the seller was user: autoprogresstoyokawa

http://sellinglist.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/user/autoprogresstoyokawa

Which incidentally appears to be the same mob selling the Toyota 2000GT mentioned in this thread. The S30z appears to have been removed from sale.

Slick 1973 Datsun 240z completely original. Original exterior orange paint is super cool and in good condition with one minor chip on the roof. Needs to be buffed and polished, but will shine up nicely! Interior has a few cracks in the dash and a small tear in the driver seat leather, but is in overall good condition. Car has never been restored. Only 125,000 miles! Great car for enthusiasts and purists alike!

What's with all these S30z's needing rhinoplasty?

Ummmmmmmm................  :o

Most people's daily commute to work is within 30 kms. So you drive to work, plug it in, by the time you leave it's charged again.

When I visit Google's headquarters in Mountain View they have charge stations for electric cars in the car parks etc.. Lots of VPs have Tesla's, Volt's, Nissan Leaf's etc.. Seems popular, in Sydney we have a couple of electric leaf's they go quite well and charge seems good enough to go from Pyrmont all over Sydney CBD, I've never had it get to really low battery unless the last person didn't charge it long enough when parked (it's a share car).

Electric motors really have great pickup down low, instant torque. I'm a big fan. Only reason I don't own 1 is that I've driven Melbourne-> Sydney and back a few times now and you can't do that without some kind of super fast battery re-charge facility.

Hey Gav, As owners of cars which we love from mechanical (serviceable by home monkeys) with the added bonus of timeless style ,interior and exterior , how are we going to future proof  these iconic cars. drove the Z for major kms to Warwick for the Easter meet ,and back, and didn't miss a beat! One day fossil fuels will be a thing of the past ,but, hope we can keep these classics still on the road . Being behind the the front of the car for such an amazing drive makes us understand why we are so nuts about these vehicles!

Electric ,hydrogen engines with soundtracks?

It looks quite solid in the photos, and mostly original apart from paint so I thought it might sell for more than it did.

Went for about $7,500 USD which is about $10K AUD at current exchange rate.

Current bid:US $6,800.00 (1 day, 18 hours to go).

This early series 240 Z just came to us form a local owner who had the car for the last 11 years. The car was long ago upgraded to a 280Z motor for  better performance but other the that, it is a very original unmodified car. Overall condition is fair with the car being a presentable driver quality car. The car runs and drives quite well and with the 280z power plant it is a lively performer. Exterior is a total repaint done about 10 years ago in the original color of Sterling Grey Metalllic. The car has all original body panels but has had rust repaired on both rocker panels we are told by previous owner. Paint finish is fair only, not anywhere near a show quality job. Bumpers are solid but have some pitting on the chrome as does other exterior bright parts. The interior is amazingly nice needing only floor carpets replaced to be excellent. Original seats are near mint and the often warped and cracked padded dash is perfect. This car must have never sat and baked in the sun. Gauges all operate correctly. Original AM-FM radio is in place but not working. Car has original steel wheels and standard hubcaps. This 240Z can be driven and enjoyed as-is or be a great candidate for some restoration. The color combination of Silver with Red interior is  rare and attractive. Early 'Z' cars are getting impossible to find in an unmodified condition and mint or restored cars are bringing very strong prices. This car is a very affordable entry level 240Z that will inly increase in value in this market. Look over our photos or come see the car here in Erie, PA.

We are posting additional photos to address inquiries we have had about the cars rust situation. New photos should show the following: Rust prone area of the battery box and inner fender below box are solid and have no previous repair. Spare tire well is rock solid, never repaired carpet out photos show original unrepaired floors but a small rust hole is evident on RT. front floor panel approximate size 3" square. Lower radiator core support has rust damage in lower corners but not severe. Floors and frame rails are older heavy undercoat but previous repairs are not evident. Rocker panels as we stated previously have had metal panel repairs done for rust repair. Door jambs have some rust starting at welded seams but not severe.

One owner 260Z with full history

• Purchased new at Arcadia Datsun in Arcadia California, remained in CA until 2007

• Rare and very desirable S30 260Z, offered only for one year

• Factory air conditioning

• The most documented Japanese car we have ever seen at Motoexotica!

• 2.6L Inline 6 with higher compression pistons, twin Hitachi HJG 44 mm SU-type carburetors

• Finished in it’s original shade of Leaf Green (302)

• Original numbers matching drivetrain

• 19,775 original miles on an original mileage Arizona title

• KYB gas struts front and rear with new coil springs

• Performance Specialties aluminum wheels

MotoeXotica is pleased to introduce another amazing Classic Datsun 260Z. Yutaka Katayama, father of the Z car, would be proud to own this particular 260Z with its extensive documentation and history! This early manufactured 260Z was sold brand new with only 18 miles on the odometer on November 8th 1973, from Bob Low’s Arcadia Datsun in Arcadia, California to Mr. Strinz. The 260Z was optioned out with factory air conditioning, AM/FM/Tape deck, body side moldings, front and rear bumper over riders, center arm rest, 4 mag wheels and body painted rear panel. The total purchase price of the 260Z was $6,250.00 and was sold by salesmen Rudy Kelly.

Mr. Strinz loved his new Leaf Green Z so much that he quickly put 700 miles on the car in the first 12 days of ownership and he returned the car to Arcadia Datsun for its first 600 mile service. He continued to diligently service the Z at Arcadia Datsun and had the 8k service at mileage 8,190 on 7/9/74, 12k service at mileage 12,420 on 11/29/74, 16k service at mileage 16,388 on 5/16/75 and the 20k service at mileage 21,586 on 1/7/76. The original Datsun service book is also stamped on all services above by Arcadia Datsun service department and also included with the original service receipts with each corresponding service!

In the late 70’s Mr. Strinz moved to Alamo, California and continued to service the Z at Kontstantin’s Import Cars in Walnut Creek California (full brake job, 50,262 miles in 1979) and also Livermore Datsun Service in Livermore California (clutch adjustment, engine tune up, valve adjustment and full carburetor service, 1978). At the end of 1981 at 74,007 miles Mr. Strinz dropped the 260Z off at Walnut Creek Datsun for its 70k service which included new clutch, throwout bearing, and master cylinder, replaced all cooling hoses, service all u-joints and valve adjustment. In 1984, the car reached 87,077 miles and it was time for an engine rebuild with a performance boost. The engine was torn down and the block was boiled and bored over. Higher compression L18 pistons were used with resized rods, new valves, seats and guides. The carburetors were rebuilt and a new performance clutch was installed with the fresh rebuild.

In the late 1980’s, the car had 98,000 miles and Mr. Strinz delivered the 260 to the Z Car specialists at Z Doctor in Richmond, California. John Vanek, the service manager, personally performed the condition report on the vehicle and Mr. Strinz followed his recommendations. The report and detailed $1,768.84 Z Doctor bill are represented in the photos below. In 1989, the body was starting to show some wear after years of enjoyable use. The 260 was turned over to the hands of Lafayette Body & Paint Works in Lafayette, California. The body was stripped, straightened, dents removed and prepped for paint. The Leaf Green paint job, overall, was over 100 hours of labor with a total cost of $6,042.00. The Z was placed back on the road with a shiny new paint job and Mr. Strinz reached 109,372 miles in 1991. He then had Danville Service Center perform a tune up and valve adjustment. He continued to use and enjoy his Z throughout the rest of the 1990’s.

In 2003 the mileage reached 117,255 miles and Mr. Strinz decided to start planning for a restoration of his trusty 1974 260Z. He filled out a order form from Victoria British ordered all new suspension including KYB struts and Suspension Tech coil springs. New weatherstripping, hatch seals, front and rear window seals, new carpet kit, floormats, new pedals, Monza performance header, all new emblems, carburetor rebuild kit and new exhaust. When the new parts arrived, Danville Service Center installed the new parts along with all new brakes and master cylinder. After the mechanical restoration the Z was taken to EB Auto Body in Oakland California for a respray of Leaf Green and to install the new weatherstripping/new windshield. The bumper covers were refinished and the front and rear bumpers were re-chromed. The restoration was complete in 2004 and in 2007 Mr. Strinz relocated to Idaho along with his Z. Over the next couple of years Mr. Strinz sparingly drove the Z on the occasional weekend. Unfortunately Mr. Strinz in 2013 sold the 260Z because he was relocating to an area with no extra space for the car. As car enthusiasts, we all have to thank Mr. Strinz for his remarkable care he performed since day one with this special green 260Z. This Z is the most documented Japanese car that we have seen hit our showroom and the next owner will be extremely delighted!

Below we have a current condition report of this extensively documented Datsun 260Z. This car was extremely well cared for ever since the first day it left the Arcadia showroom. With the represented history listed above the condition report gives the viewer an idea how the Z stands today.

Due to the impeccable, dry condition of the chassis and body. This car went through an extensive restoration in 2004 at which time the body was finished in the correct “Leaf Green” 2 stage paint color (paint code 302). The paint is bright and still in great condition. All of the panels fit well. The doors open freely, do not sag and shut without problem. All the Chrome on the bumpers look great and also include the original accessory bumper overrider bars. All the chrome trim is there, in good shape, with the exception of a few very small dings in the windshield trim over the driver-side of the windshield. The chrome light bezels in the rear taillights are slightly pitted, and has a small crack on the inside of the trim piece nearest the plastic lens cover, but all the lenses and other lights are great shape, and hardly show there age. The wheels are a vintage set of Performance specialties (p/s), 14 inch polished aluminum wheels, wrapped in a nice set of 195/60-14 tires with deep tread and even wear.

The interior gets even better. The well preserved Black vinyl interior seems to be the original as all the textures and materials are correct. The seats, still retaining the metal back breathers, looks as if normal wear and tear forgot about them and moved on to a different car! The fresh carpeting fits well for an older car and shows no signs of shrinking, eroding or discoloring. The Door panels are clean, and the top sills are not dried out, torn or ripped from sun exposure. The headliner appears original, with only slight wear on the edges closer to the sun-visors, of which are also nice and not sagging in your face. The original dash is cracked in several places on the areas most exposed to the sun, but still retains a solid structure and looks acceptable. While some people may prefer the patina, the car will also include a custom fitted dash cover that looks nice and conceals the cracks. The gauges are in fantastic shape with clear glass, no cracked bezels and all appear to be working at this time. Even the map light in the center of dash works, so pull out that map on trips and go old school if you would like. Rounding out the interior we would like to note that the hatch carpet, spare tire cover, and all panels in hatch area are also just as nice as the rest of the interior, and include the original spare tire and tie down straps.

Finally, The drivetrain. Lifting the hood will display a nicely kept engine bay, and all factory components in tact and operational right down to the under-hood light!,(with the exception of a high flow, temperature adjustable electric fan that will really keep the engine cool during those car cruises) The 2.6 L L26 I6, number g26030230 is well kept, and original to the car. It retains the mechanical fuel pump, and twin Hitachi HJG 46W 44 mm SU-type carburetors, and it runs fantastic with plenty of power, and delivers it with the sweetest sound a Z car enthusiast will hear! The car accelerates with authority, smoothly shifting through the slick 4 speed manual transmission. This is truly a car you want to drive and own with full documentation and history. So what are you waiting for? Please see the Motoexotica Youtube channel to watch the video of this stunning 1974 260Z! GET OUT AND DRIVE!

The current mileage shows 19,775 but the vehicle has 119,775 original miles and is sold on a clear actual mileage Arizona title. The history and documentation on this Z is so overwhelming that we simply cannot present it all in this ad. Please give us a call at 636-600-4600 for more in depth information on this 260.

A beautiful 1971 Datsun 240Z, with only 90,525 miles, at a NO RESERVE auction. Here is the chance for you to become the next caretaker of this true Japanese classic sports car. This car was sold new on June 1st, 1971, by Balsinger Motor Sales, in Palmetto, Florida, and through only four owners (all in the same family), have lived a pampered life in the Sunshine State. The original Purchase Order comes with the car, together with a lot of receipts for maintenance work. In 2005, a set of OEM carburetors was ordered from Motorsport Auto, and installed by Courtesy Nissan in West Palm Beach, FL. There is also a receipt for new seat foam and new seat covers from 2006, not quite sure who did the installation of these.

There is no rust in the car (see pictures of original Floor Pans), it starts up immediately, and is happy to be alive. The car was delivered in color 920 Gold, and it looks to have had one re-paint approximately 12-15 years ago (per the 4th registered owner).  There are some imperfections in the paint, but nothing outside of normal wear and tear. I bought the car with the intention of keeping it, unfortunately life happens, and the car must be sold.

I have driven the car only 35 miles since I got the it, it runs great, and it is a blast to drive. Underneath, the car is about as nice as it is on top, there was a new Flowmaster muffler installed recently, and this was clamped, not welded, to the main exhaust pipe, and there was a small exhaust leak. I took the car to Mad Hatter Exhaust in Pompano Beach, FL, and had the connection between the muffler and exhaust tube welded, no more exhaust leak. I have also installed new weatherstripping in both doors, trunk-lid and underneath the hood.  There is a new DATSUN emblem ordered from Motorsport Auto, this had not been delivered when I took the pictures of the car.

The car has the Shelby mags, and the tires are in excellent condition. As you can see on the original purchase order, the car was delivered with dealer installed Air Condition, this was removed by the previous owner, but he was smart enough to retain all the parts, and these comes with the car. The original smog pump was also removed, but it comes with the car. The clock is not working, all other instruments works fine. There is two small cracks in the dash, other than that, it shows that the car was always taken care of, and always kept in a climate controlled garage.

The chrome on both front and rear bumper is in superb condition, all window glass is original, the original radio works perfect, so does the power antenna. The original jack, tool kit and wheel stops are also with the car, not quite sure if the spare tire is the original one, it does have some dry-rot, and should probably be replaced unless you have a Platinum AAA membership, and can get on a flatbed to the nearest Tire Shop if you have a flat.

This is a 44 year old car, with very few miles, I would probably not recommend that you drive the car home if you live a distance away from here, the car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me, or you can call me at 954-653-1579.

This car is a true classic first generation Z car, and as previously mentioned, it is being sold at a no-reserve auction. I can be of help with shipping, both nationally and internationally. A $500 PayPal deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end time, and balance of purchase price must be paid by wire transfer or cash within 7 days of end of auction. I do not accept any checks.

Although a little 'over' cooked in my opinion. Still gives a good sense of how good the gold can look.
